get errrrr done! drycell working like a champ!

So it was indeed insufficient ground, i attached another ground to an existing ground post on the DS framerail near the IRS and it starts everytime.

relocated dynabatt to trunk, ISSUES....

The battery and bracket together weigh right about 14 lbs, and 24 ft or so of 4 gauge wire another 4-5 lbs. Looks pretty trick too. Should be a little closer to 50/50 now. Got 3040 on a scale with 6-7 gallons of fuel, with 20 lbs increments so it could be less.

For anyone doing this, youre going to need more than the stock ground going to the block, youll need to ground it to the chassis in the rear as well.

heres a pic, I have another in my gallery.

Thanks isnt it cute? I was flipping through an issue of motortrend, and I cant believe how light this car is. As it sits its 200 lbs heavier than a 2002 honda civic, a solstice, and the last gen RX7 (2870-2900 lbs). And a whopping 900 lbs lighter than the new cobra! Incredible considering whats under the hood.

I rag on GM engineering all day long, but they did a good job of keeping the weight off the ZO6.

Nice work - glad to hear it's all figured out!

I was thinking about your grounding issues last night while trying to fall asleep (i've got issues), and it hit me... you could just ground to the differential case or the tranny, and that would be pretty much the same as grounding right to the engine block since they're all connected by the torque tube!

Oh well, sounds like you got it working great anyway.

Battery terminals

If NOT using an enclosing box (which is OK) I recommend that you at least install a cover over the positive post connection.

This will prevent a short in case you leave a metal object behind the seat. It is also required by the SCCA. A cover will also protect the anode from shorting during a crash in the event of deformation.

This is a MUST do as there have been a couple of fatalities due to shorting out and igniting a fire after a minor shunt.

Like stated above, cover the positive post connection. Let's be safe.

Looks good.

Yeah I better cover it up, any recommendations on what to use besides electrical tape?

Thanks for all the comments, this was pretty cheap and easy and it saved and relocated a good amount of weight. I spent about $130 for the battery, mounting bracket shipped, and another $60 on 30+ ft of 4 gauge wire. Anyone can do this on their own.

The technical term is "Tab Insulator".

You can get them for about $2.00 ea..

Just for information sake, the following site is very illustrative (I am not suggesting you purchase from this site) this is what we are talking about:

http://www.solarseller.com/battery_t...otectors.h tm

Scan down as this site offers a huge assortment of covers. I like the "Side Post Terminal Covers".
