Think I've settled on the Vortex intake kit and a power duct, but what about the GMS MAF? Will it make a difference with an otherwise stock Z06? I figured that's a better option than just removing the screen on the stock MAF, since this one is calibrated for it.
Unless you have a stroker motor running about 500 hp, the stock Maf, airbridge, coupler, and tb will flow all the air you need. Of course, removing the maf screen will help and is a free mod that GM has "discovered". There is nothing or very little to be gained on a stock bottem end motor with any of these intake mods. The airbox is really the only significant restriction. At least that is what DRM and TPIS have told me.

I also was looking at the MAF...called Granatelli 888 737 1118 ...was told"boss has a ZO6 He gained 17 hp and 15 tq...I was thinking why hadn't i heard about this before? To make a long story short, It's all BS....save your $$$..I can't believe a well known company would flat assed lie to people...word does get around.....
What about removing the stock MAF screen? Help? Hurt? I know the 2002's have changed some of the programming to compensate for that...but I wouldn't be able to do that.
Remove the sreen but stay with the stock MAF it flows more than the one on the regular C5's. I went to a shop and the owner tld me not to change, it is more than adequate for the car with a lot of mods. Now the owner could have sold it to me, but he didn't because he told me it would not produce any more HP. He could have made more money but he didn't. Now for the intake system, I'm going for the Halltech TRIC/MAG, looks and performance. You could go with the Sidewider if you don't want to cut the shroud. Take note that some of the people that have removed the maf screen with a bottom feeding filter have experienced surging problems do to the turbulance that the screen would have other wise smoothed out.
I only had this problem with the Z06 with the 3¾" maf not the '00's with the 3½".
GM is removing the screen in '02 but the filter is not getting forced air.

For G.M to meet CAFE, these C5s tend to run on the lean side. Depending on what other mods you do such as increasing the airflow and also cooler air, a modified MAF like from that vendor is hardset for 5% richer which might not be enough or your C5 might just be running close to perfect for fuel trims and going 5% richer would retard the timing and slow you down.
I strongly suggest that C5 owners take advantage of OBD II in your ability to monitor the PCM and know exactly how the engine is functioning and how any mods are doing.
This way you know for sure if a mod is a plus or minus and requires tuning, i.e for airflow / fuel trims with a MAF translator with a stock MAF with screen out and adjust the MAFT for best performance under the conditions you are driving.
I even monitor while racing and it sure tells ya what is going on and what needs tweaking.
The balance between running too lean or rich has a bearing on performance as to engine timing and knock causing timing to retard.
I found the surgig is not as much to turbulance but to the increased airflow causing a even more leaner condition.
I have done at least 50 PCM traces and experiments with the MAF and a translator and can induce surging or get totally rid of it depending on how LTFT trim is set.
I now have the screen out and had surging, but dialed it out with the MAFT.
Taking the screen out takes just a few minutes, it sits within a groove of MAF housing and just a fine screwdriver or blade will pop it out.
It will be damaged and you cannot put it back in.
You will see a metal piece in center of front of MAF and it smooths out the air and thus why turbulance is not the main issue and why G.M has moved away from using a screen because it reduces air volume about 15% ?
