GHL Muffler system Feedback?

Just kicking the idea of going to an aftermarket muffler system. I have been around another car marque for a while and GHL is a recognized name brand in this particular segment of cars. Recently, the company began offering a variety of Corvette applications (muffler system only). I've looked at their website and find the 3 1/2 Quad Bulls Eye Tips quite pleasing.

If their reputation in the industry with other product application stands, I would consider their C5 Corvette system.

Anyone have any experience with the GHL 3 1/2 Quad tips? Install, sound (resonating), fit and finish?

I have them and am quite pleased. They do have extensive burbling and popping sound on deacceleration but I think much of that may be due to my TT package.

How about cabin resonation?

I have not noticed any resonance. However, shortly after they were installed I purchased a partition, storage covers and Lloyd cargo mat.

I think King Ray has done alot of research on GHL's, and plans on purchasing - you may want to give him a PM.

Exhaust

Corvette Concepts was first to offer this system. I was made aware of these on another site. I am sold on them but will purchase after recoup from header out lay. Do recall some chatter about Borla and this system one copying the other??

Also, keep in mind you can sell your stock exhaust with little to no problem. I posted on aother forum, had 6 responses the next day. My exhaust sold for $500.00. That went a long way to compensating me for my Borla's.

Thanks, Dust, I've looked into them a little. It seems that they are similar to Borla Stingers but supposedly higher quality. I was looking at the 4" 4 tip ones that are only offered by LAPD. According to Shawn, these are the closest to a 60's Big Block side pipe sound of the different exhausts. They are currently in first place for my exhaust choice. The wider the pipe, the deeper the exhaust note, since a wider pipe resonates at a lower frequency. That's why I would prefer the 4" over the 3 1/2". I like a deep rumbly sound.

Thanks, KR. And you're quite correct. The larger the diameter the better the low end grunt sound. However, I had a "not so pleasing" experience when I went to aftermarket mufflers on my ZR-1. They sounded really good on the low end (idle to 1500). A very disturbing cabin resonant between 1550 to about 1700. Then just way too kewl beyond. This however kept me in fourth and fifth unless I plan WOT. Hated it and after bit of seat time, really got to me. I was in SoCal at the time and getting into traffic kept me in the low speeds. I actually kept the ZR-1 in third at 55 mph interstate driving. Planned on going with the 4:10 rear end but never got around to it (one reason was to eliminate the resonant and of course, the other was to wake up the beast).

Yeah, Larry, maybe you can ask Shawn and others what he thinks about the resonance.

My L-72 with sidepipes is so loud that after driving it back from Corvette Mike's I was nearly deaf. Like going to a rock concert. But I love it!

I had a local dealer install the GHL w/ quad bullseye, and the mechanic said it was the best quality he had seen. Very quiet at cruising speed with no resonation, but during exceleration you'll hear that great V-8 sound.

I just posted this last night on another thread:

I spent a few weeks checking these boards for advice and spoke to a few of our supporting merchants. I checked out this link - http://www.thx2.net/exhaust.htm - to listen to the exhausts as best as I could without being next to the car.

I thought that the Borla's sounded the best (really deep and MEAN), but read that too many people experienced increased resonance. I was trying to find something a bit "quieter" inside the cockpit at cruising speed. The Corsas are supposed to be quiet, but I really did not like the sound I heard off of that website.

I finally settled on the GHL's from LAPD. They sounded very nice and are reported to have almost no resonance in the cockpit. They also offer a wide range of tip sizes. I'm having them installed on the car on March 1st (thanks, Cartek), so I can't tell you what I think of them yet.

As far as I can tell, none of the "street" systems offers considerably more horsepower than the other. It really is a matter of personal taste and personal preferences (single tip, dual tip, polished, resonance minimization, etc.)

P.S. I'm doing before and after dyno runs on March 1st and will report my gains with the GHL's and Halltech intake.
