Who is having luck with hardened output shafts? I heard that these are breaking too. I thought that Lingenfelter had the best one. Well last night on only the second run, only a 2500rpm dump, the Lingenfelter shaft just popped Am I the only unlucky one out here or what?
Interesting as the Hardened output shafts are actually more flexible..which helps them last a bit longer...still with enough abuse anything will break.
I have hardened output shafts in my 3.73 gears as well.
Here is a long, detailed link w/ photos regarding some output shaft testing we did on our 300M steel output shaft and the link also displays some comparisons between our product and a number of other shafts that are available in the aftermarket.
Keep in mind that this post is not meant to for us sell something, but merely as free information to you so that you can make an informed decision before you purchase the S.D. shaft of your choosing. The photos pretty much speak for themselves...
Did you shake the tires after/during take-off or was it smooth with some wheelspin? I've heard that the cryogenically-treated "hardened" output shafts are just about as likely to break as the stock ones, and that the best thing to do is to just spin the wheels a little more.
This is the first time I have ever heard of one of these shafts breaking. We install them in every one of our high HP cars, and we have made a ton of runs with higher HP drag cars, so this is a first for us. Please call me and we can discuss this further.

Well, I took it all apart and fixed it this morning....I was wrong, The hardened shaft did'nt break SORRY for jumping the gun, it was the other side. The side that is the spider gear. I had to gut another rear to get one. GM won't sell it seperate, I can't find an upgraded one, maybe I missed it. This car is a head/cam car that makes 461 rwhp/420rwtq by the way.
Well, back to the track this morning, the first run out, and good hook.....POW the rearend exploded. Now I have to take it all apart and find out what broke this time. Unfortunately the housing exploded this time.
