Has anyone ever experienced this?

I was checking things under the hood today when I noticed both hoses coming from the radiator to the water pump and water temp were collapsed. The car had been sitting for several hours. I was even at the track this week with no issues. I did start the car and brought it up to temp. They did expand back to normal, the water level is full and I have not had any overheating problems. I think it might be time to change the hoses. They are the original ones. Thoughts?

My guess is that when it cooled, it pulled a vacuum and the weakened hoses cillapsed.

I'd replace the hoses...all of them. You've got your money's worth at this point.

Yeah, I agree. Four years on the hoses is good enough especially since I do track the car on a regular basis. Guess I will change the next weekend while I am installing the AR headers!!

Someone else with actual facts may want to chime in if i'm wrong, but it sounds like the cap on your coolant reservoir is leaking. If it is, it will let air out of the cooling system when the engine heats up and pressure builds. Then when cooling the air in the system will contract, colapsing the hoses.

The cap should only vent if pressure in the cooling system goes beyond 15 psi or so (not sure exactly what the pressure is on the Z).

Your cap could need replacement, or just a good hand tightening. I'd try removing the cap from the reservoir with the engine cold and see if the hoses return to their original shape. If they do, tighten the cap on real good and check on the hoses again after the next long drive you have once the car has cooled right off again.

If the hoses are colapsed and they once again return to their proper shape when you pull the cap off the reservoir, you have a leak in the system somewhere that's letting air out and not back in. The most likely suspect would be the reservoir cap. Good luck!

Check your coolant reservoir cap.

I agree with Blue Angel and mine are doing the same thing. When I loosen the cap, the hoses immediately uncompress.

Damn, I never thought about the cap. Didn't think it would just go bad because it is/was on tight.
