HELP! What does code P1514 mean?

I just installed a ported intake and throttle body , roller rockers , comp 918 springs and a Halltech TRAP Hybrid. I did the idle relearn and the car was idleing fine and sounded great when you stepped on the throttle in neutral. However , when you put it in gear and gave it more than 10% throttle , the dashboard would light up like a christmas tree. It would say Reduced Power , Service Active Handling and Service Traction Control. The car will then run on four cylinders and the check engine light comes on. If I turn the motor off and remove the key , then put the key right back in and start the motor , it runs fine and sounds good. It sounds great if you rev it in neutral , but the check engine light is still on and as soon as you give it some gas in gear , all hell breaks loose again. I'm pretty sure that it has something to do with the throttle body , but I'm not possitive. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Butcher

Heres a link to a list of codes. P1514 looks like mass air flow sensor

Good luck http://www.z06vette.com/ipc.txt

Yep that is what it is. Check the connector to the MAF, try unpluging, repluging. Sounds like it is not sending a signal.

DTC P1415 or P1416 Secondary Air Injection (AIR) System

I agree with above...sounds like the MAF.

That makes sense , but I think that it's wrong. Here's why ;

1) I never touched the MAF. I didn't even unplug it from the harness.

2) When I use my scanner it shows that the MAF is functioning. It reads the air temperature and the flow rate goes up and down with RPM and throttle position. However , the scanner shows the throttle position sensor reads .00 no matter what RPM or throttle position. The throttle postion percentage is irratic also. It changes but it doesn't seem to coincide with the actual throttle percentage.

3) When this code comes up , it also throws codes for the traction control and active handling. As far as I know , both of those are effected by throttle position sensor. I just pulled those codes and they are - C1278 and V1096.

I think I'm going to get a TPS and see if this fixes it. If anyone has any thoughts , please share them with me. To me , all signs seem to point to the TPS , but maybe I'm missing something. Thanks.

C1278 TCS Temporarily Inhibited by PCM - I don't think it's the TCS, I think that the PCM isn't liking something it's receiving and inhibiting the TCS. With the throttle control inhibited, the active handling and traction control would be effected. The reduced power mode is usually to protect you from an overheating condition (possibly air flow again). I can't say for sure, but the PCM doesn't like something that it's seeing and trying to correct. All of the mods involved the intake - throttle body, ported intake, Halltech. It would seem to revolve around one of these items.

i had the same problem.. not sure of the code numbers... but it kept on saying active service handling and reduced power... and the problem turned out to be a wet tach module...

hope this helps..

Re: HELP! What does code P1514 mean?

Since you did a R&R on the throttle body, could it be something as simple as an air leak? :idea:
