Help with wiring please

Just got a smartire pressure monitor with display. Great product, all cars should have one and most Vettes do except our Z-06's! ($250 delivered from Vulcan Tire, with digital display and my tire guy charged $85 to install the transmitters and re-balance)

Help please: I need to find a 12v lead that is hot when the ignition is on. It needs to be in the driver footwell area to make things easy. Anybody got a tip to save a bud some time? I'm pretty good with wiring, I just don't want to start poking a bunch of wires hit-or-miss and I don't have any wiring manuals. Thanks.

Off hand I know of three places to grab switched power.

There is a fuse box under the passenger foot area and when you take out the fuse box, under there is a grouping of wires. I grabbed a yellow wire from in there for my aftermarket radio and it works fine.

There is also one on the rear view mirror. I cant remember the color (brown?!), but do a search and there is a drawing somewhere. Or just use a multimeter and do some testing. I hooked my radar detector into this and it works fine!

The third (and I've only read about this one) is at the harness to the switch that controls the traction control. Apparently the harness has like 8 wires coming out of it and one of them is switched power.

Whatever wire you choose, I would recomment using a 12V relay and use one of the switched leads to throw the relay. Its safer that way, as is adding a fuse inline.

I'm sure there are more switched 12V+ leads, those are just the ones I know of. Good luck!
