High tranny temp

Seeing the engine blown thread has me a little concerned. I take my Z06 to the track occassionally. The last time, I got a High Trans Temp warning. Of course, I immediately got off the track and let it cool down.

Has anyone else ever hit this warning? Is anyone aware of a good transmission cooler for the Z06? I don't imagine this code goes over very big at the shop.

I think ZeeFreak in Portland, OR smoked his tranny. Last I heard he had to repair it and was going for an oil cooler also.

I did not know that Z06 had a trans temp warning light ???
I thought that was reserved for automatic cars. Where is the warning light located ???

It shows up on the DIC. It scared the heck out of me. It went off after a few seconds, but then came back on when I stopped on the grid.

It's mentioned in the Owner's Manual.

You know, the little book that nobody reads.

yep a cooler would be good to have - just $$$ and not much fun for the install. Plus a little difficult to explain at the dealer.

anybody installed one lately?

A trans cooler and and engine cooler might be an excellant idea. I think GM makes them or sells them. Anybody have the price and part #s?

That should read an engine "oil" cooler.

Explaining the trans cooler to the dealer can't be any more difficult than explaing why your hitting the high trans temp code.

Check DJWorm's post on the T-1 suspension kits. He lists factory coolers as well.

Don't know whether it's true or not, but I heard than adding a trans cooler would cause GM to void the powertrain warranty .. since it's only necessary for racing.

I heard the same thing.. Americas sports car. No warranty if used for intended purpose. Go figure

That appears to be the case. In particular, the video that came with the car talks up the track performance, but in every section of the video, they mention conulting the warranty. Then they continue on about the stellar track performance. And tehn there's the "By the way, here's what you need to do before going to the track."

What a bunch of hipocrats.
