how about gearing?

hey y'all,

just a quick question.. lets say we swap the 3.42 gears with a 3.73 gears set .. how would that affect top speed? cuz i know the 3.73 will be acclerating faster.. but would the top speed on the 3.73 be less? would the speed on first gear of a 3.42 at 6500 rpm be the same as the speed ofn first gear of a 3.73 at 6500 rpm? and if so .. does anyone know how can we calculate top speeds for each gear of the following:
3.42
3.73
3.90
4.10

thanks guys

It depends on hp figures also.

Go to http://www.jadesupra.net/gears/index.html

Enter 2001 Z06 from the drop down menu and enter the proper gearing and rev limite and it will tell u the speeds.

Remember you must have enough hp to pull top speed in a certain gear and you cant really guess that sometimes. You just have to try it out.

just an fyi..the CTS V series has Z06 motor and tranny and has 3.73 rear gears and without speed limiter GM is discussing its top speed is 171 mph. (weighs 600 more than Z06/5 less hp too)

I have the 3.73's Getrag/Mallet unit in the trunk of my car awaiting installation soon.

Id say its comparable to the 3.90's many six speed C5 vert and coupe owners are raving about.

3.90's are very popular for gearing swaps in Z06's used for the street.

4.10's very popular with the H/c drag racing (drag radials) but its supposedly a waste on the street...with street tires..
