Just HOW close to "Real World" #'s are they?

Dyno's???????????

Do they really give GOOD #'s IF they are set up correctly??.

A friend on here once told me," Dyno's don't lie",.........

I agree, BUT, Dyno operators have as much to do with results as the Dyno........IF day data is not input correctly............

How do we as mere MORTALS know one way from the other???.........

All this may be a moot point, since actual track #'s tell the tape.......but, IF the #'s are correct......then they SHOULD play a big part in the Trap, and ET's........given a good driver/day/weather/etc..........

What do you guy's think???

At this point call me Disenfranchised.....................

Yup, I agree with you

Since it's all about bragging rights, go to different Dyno shops and find the one with the best #'s.....hehehe Of course, make sure they give you SAE figures.....to adjust out temperature, pressure and humidity.

FRC Tom got 20 more HP on a Mustang Dyno vs. a Dyno Jet Unit. So, find a Mustang Dyno and see what your Z does in comparison.

Unfortunately, at the track, there are many more variables besides temp, pressure, and humidity. Such as track surface, tire pressure, brand of tire, type of tire, tire wear, shocks, springs, alignment, and of course the all important *driver ability.* And, of course, the type of event you're running in.

Mr. Goodwrench told me his store got in a couple of coupes the other day.....mechanically identical, but one was really quick and the other was a dog!! Says they see this all the time!?

I think Dyno days where cars are run on the same machine for 3 runs with the same operator on the same day should give a pretty accurate comparison. SAE corrected, of course. Ditto with the Drag Strip, but then your introducing more variables.....

Just my 2 cents....

I agree TO MANY VAReables to blindly belive anything on fourms, unfortunatly. Maybe the guy that gets to the end of the 1/4 first on a regular baises has figured out mass hipnosis one thing is for shure ; it's allowed to post misleading imfo on the internet. ADVERLIEZING is not discuraged. It's fine for you to be disalusioned, after reading enough posts saying things I KNOW are off, I start to wounder about things I KNOW from first hand experience. So it comes down to if you want numbers or results on the track. And you will have to do it your self. Just my opinion. Ric

Dynos do have to be serviced over time just like anything else mechanical. But the only way you'll get bogus numbers (assuming the above is taken care of) is if the correction factor is wrong.

The wet bulb (which determines air conditions) at the dyno you use in Lewisville is built into the machine. So, someone cannot stick it in an oven, get some bogus readings, input them into the computer and then come out with some super-high correction factor (CF).

But it cannot help you on race day. You may dyno with the proper CF and be at 347rwhp, but if you race on a day where its 80^F, 55% hum., and 29.40" Hg baro. pressure, then your ACTUAL HP will be lower...could be 337 or so on that day, and if the engine is heat-soaked, even lower.

I've tested several dynos in our area here in DFW over the last few years. I just go to SpeedWorks in Lewisville now b/c 1) I like the people and 2) its convenient. But, years ago when my Mustang was putting out 530-540rwhp...all the dynos were within 4-5rwhp of each other. Shoot this is a pretty good "error factor", I think, when you're talking about a car making this kind of power. Less than 1%! You'll get that kind of variance b/w pulls on the same day at the same dyno.

They are great tools for determining the +/- effect of mods, and you're in a controlled environment, so you can easily log and see what the engine is doing at different rpms (wide-band A/F meter is typically accessible, too).

But it won't win you a race at the track.
