Had to get rid of that annoying 1st to 4th skip shift. The car now with CAGS installed does not do the annoying skip shift any more but the idiot light still comes on. Is this how it's suppose to work? Greg

Greg,

From what I have read the light continues to come on. Just ignore it.

You didn't install CAGS, the doggle you installed interupts the signal to the solenoid that activates the gate for the 1st to 4th shift. That means it's bypassed! Yes, unless you do and LS1 edit or other PCM rewrite the light will still come on.

Torched,

Case is right. If you installed a CAGS defeat that plugs into the wiring harness connecting to the transmission, then the solenoid in the trans is no longer powered and will not block you from shifting into second gear, but the PCM will still illuminate that stupid "shift 1 to 4" light on the dash. The only way that I know of to eliminate both the light and the solenoid, is to use LS1-edit software and modify the PCM. I heard that this software costs about $500. Unless you are looking to mod other performance functions, this is an expense way to just turn off the light.Take it for a ride, enjoy the one to two shift, ingore the dash light, and have a Coors light!

That's weird.. I don't seem to recall seeing the light after I installed the CAGS defeat. Maybe I just blocked it out? I couldn't tell you if I still have it now though because I recently had my car edited.

If the "1 to 4" light is on, but you are in second, your install is all good

You mean the 1-4 shift light, or the check engine light? The shift light is normal, but a check engine light would indicate the PCM isn't seeing the right resistance from the cags defeat harness.

On the F-bodies, if you purchase the !cags from SLP, you don't get the light. If you purchase the !cags from other vendors, you do. I dunno...

Just installed the cags bypass on mine today also. Also found an oily diff. Talked to c4c5 today, he thinks it might be a diff. over fill problem, as there were no apparent leaks that we could see nor any oil "washed" areas on the diff. The oil level in the diff. was full when we checked it. I hope he is right.
I have also noticed that my cags (before I did the bypass) was not very consistant-some times it would come on and some times not?? I hope this is not an indication of a computer problem!!
I tie wrapped the harness to another harness on the trans. instead of the tubing on the body as I don't like the drive line componets being tied to the body.

I bought my CAGS defeat at Xtreme Motorsports for $20. I was expecting the 1-4 shift light to come on even though the CAGS was bypassed, but I never noticed it coming on. Then again.. Last time I was at the track, I didn't even notice the low fuel warning lights until my car was sputtering. I said.. Wait a minute... I wasn't revving that high to hit the rev limiter. I would go check to see if my shift light comes on, but I just had the car edited, so I wouldn't be able to tell.

Russ; I don't know if this might be your situation or not but if a person usually shifts at or just above the point of engagement for CAGS it would certainly give the impression of sometimes working and sometimes not.

The 1-4 shift indicator should still lite even with CAGS disabled unless defeated with LSEdit.

Pat

I just installed my CAGS eliminator a few days ago. Got it from Ecklers. The light will still come on, but only after the engine comes up to temperature. Ignore the light and enjoy.

That's weird.. I swear that my light never came on again. Does anyone else have the CAGS eliminator from Xtreme Motorsports? If so, does your 1-4 shift light come on?

The instructions for mine told me to expect the light to come on, but assured the CAGS was bypassed. Mine is a plug in piece.
