lowering a Z06

Just got my Z and looking into lowering it 1". My question is when they lower it, do they need to do anything with the wheel alignment or set the car up on scales? Or do they just lower it and it's done?

I tracked mine and let it settle a bit then had an alignment.

After you lower it, I suggest you drive it around 100 miles or so and then have a alignment performed.

Lowering will definitely change the suspension geometry. Do what the above posters suggest...lower it, drive it and then align it. (Four wheel alignment of course )

Had my car lowered @MTI when in for other mods and I was told by the crew there lowering doesn't change the suspension geometry and an alignment wasn't needed as long as just the bolts were lowered and no cutting was done.

that is incorrect, it does change the geometry, the real question is if it changes it enough to be worth an allignment.

QUESTION: Exactly what is it that needs to "settle"? I can't imagine why it should have to settle at all, and yet I have to admit that after I lowered mine it seemed to change over the following week or so. I'm still not convinced it wasn't purely psychological.

I believe that's the first time I have ever read a thread that has said that alignment wasn't necessary after lowering. If you ever saw how the alignment is done when they were built, you would have your Z06 a alignment performed as soon as you bought it, even if you didn't lower it.

Hmmm...and a new set of tires costs how much?

Did this yesterday... the alignment specs didn't move much between factory high and all the way down (however the car was already out of alignment in a different way on each corner at factory). I guess the double wishbone thing is doing it's job... not like we are lowing a car here with just a lower arm (where the camber gets really tweeked by lowering).

Just passing on the info given to me at MTI....I've had the car for a year now so an alignment is a good idea. BTW the tires have no noticeable uneven wear w/5k mi.

You won't need scales if you lower it the same amount on all 4 corners. Here is a good link on the procedure -> DIY Lowering Without Frank's Mechanic (lots of pics)

As others have stated, drive it around for a few days or so, then have an alignment done.
