lowering Z06

New guy here,
Quick question about why do corvette drivers lower there cars? Is it for : 1) cosmetic purposes, 2)for better handling or 3)for less air drag. And if I decide to do it how much would it cost? and will GM dealer do it for me and will they still honor their garantee?

Hope to hear from you Z06 dudes soon

I lowered mine for better handling and better looks. The cost was nothing. We lowered about 7 Z06s at a recent Z06vette.com gathering. The dealer shouldn't charge you much more than a hours labor and it shouldn't even take them that long. There is no effect on the Warranty. Wait about two weeks after you lower it and have the dealer do a alignment. You will need one...

I have been wanting to do this but the only two things holding me back.
1. I run DRs at the track. Will this hurt me in anyway?
2. How much does a alignment cost.
After seeing Z06s that are lowered I really want to do this to my car. It looks so cool.

I don't know if lowering will hurt you at the track. I lowered mine to get rid of the gap between the tire and the fender well. I had mine done at Southwest Alignment in Houston for $90.00. He knew his way around Corvette's and did an excellent job.

Lowered mine for looks. The High Performance Suspension Class at CVCC in Hickory, NC lowered mine as a class project. It only cost $19 for 2 Grade 8 bolts, nuts and washers. After driving it they also aligned it with a little less negative camber for the street at no cost. The ride is a little firmer but not harsh and the handling is better even though I was going for looks.

Just met another ZO6 owner at a car show last Sunday and he got a quote from Carvaggio to lower his Z $450.00 Canadian about $300.00 us.
A friend of mine did 2 cars in 2 hours and cost nothing.

See if you can find someone in the Montreal area that can do this for you.

Don

Can someone post a pic of before and after lowering on the stock bolts. Been thinking about doing this. Does it make noticeable difference in looks?

This is a very simple procedure. It takes longer to get the car up on jack stands and take the front wheels/tires off than it takes to lower the front end. The rear is easier. No need to remove anything. I did half my car yesterday. It got dark and I did not have the correct size wrench for the nuts on the rear (13/16ths). Will complete the rear this afternoon.

Hopefully those prices that LONGGONE quoted included an alignment because that seems way high just for lowering.

For those that lowered on the stock bolts, using the how to from this site, does the car retain the rake? I have about a 1/2 rake from front to back.
