Mobil1 10W30 WTF?

Just came from Wal mart, I use 10W30 for my Z and noticed that the 5W30 5 quart jugs state that they meet the GM #4718M spec.
The 10W30 ones no longer do. They always did now all of a sudden there is no mention of it on the bottle WTF??

Remember, Mobil now has two lines of Mobil 1 out. The "old" one still does meet GM Standard 4718M according to the Mobil website. The new, labeled Extended Performance (sound familiar?) is not labeled to meet GM Standard 4718M in either 5w30 or 10w30.

As an alternative, AMSOIL's PAO based group IV 10w30 synthetic does meet GM Standard 4718M:
AMSOIL SAE Synthetic 10w30

I noticed that too. I guess its because GM authorizes 5w-30 only- (for cars).
I wouldn't worry, the fully synthetic 10w-30 is as good as it gets.

Thats why I brought this up it was the old one not the new extended stuff.

You need to go to another store. They still make Mobil One in 10w30 that meets GM #4718M spec.

I emailed mobil 1 last week with the same questions because the bottle does not say gm4718m but the website does. They confirmed that it does meet gm4718m.

I am talking about the reqular mobil 1 http://www.mobil1.com/USA-English/Mo..._1_10W-30.aspx not the extended performance. The bottle of 10w30 does not list gm4718m but the website does list it. Sorry for the confusion.

Yes, the new Mobil 1 Extended Life synthetics are group IV PAO based synthetics very similar to AMSOIL SAE synthetics. Mobil 1 states that they have 36% more anti-wear additives and 37% more cleaning agents than the current Mobil 1. This is similar to AMSOILs historic approach. However, as mentioned above, the Mobil 1 Extended Life synthetics do not meet GM Standard 4718M, but AMSOILs do. That may or may not be an issue for you depending on whether your car is under warranty or if you are willing to push the bounds of the warranty.

Sounds like someone in the Mobil 1 marketing department needs to be fired. How stupid is that to NOT put it on the bottles if it does meet the spec? :bang: :-?

I was bummed to find out that they don't make the M1 15-50 anymore. Do I really want to run 5-30 at the track when my temps get up to 306 deg. :oo: ?
