My Discount Tire fiasco gets worse . . . .

Follow up from this seperate thread:

Sneak peek . . . .

**UPDATE** - Okay, now I'm starting to get pissed. Last night when I left DT, the Asst. Mgr. said I had 2 options: They could refund me the $228 or they would replace the wheel. Not sure why now, but I said let me think about it, and I'll talk to you tomorrow. Well today is tomorrow, and I stopped by to talk to him. He was out, but the Manager was in. He said they were not going to replace the wheel, but they would "fix" it. By fix, they want to send it back to the manufacturer, and have them just replace the outer lip, the part they damaged. He stated "we didn't mess up the whole wheel, we're not going to replace the whole wheel, just the lip which is damaged". So I'm like that's fine, but what am I supposed to drive around on. He says "we'll get you another Corvette wheel". I asked him if he new the difference between a Honda Civic and a Corvette, and did he really think I was going to drive around a $50k+ car with one mismatched wheel?? His response was "I don't see why not, it will be the right size". Is this riduculous or am I being a typical Corvette "prick" owner. Plus, should I have an issue with a "fixed" wheel?? He keeps saying, "it's still new, because you'll have a new lip. It's not like it's bent and is being repaired". Man, I'm so pissed right now. Why should I be inconvenienced because he put the wrong guy on the job and screwed up my damn wheel. Someone please make sense of this.

The beauty of a multi piece wheel is that the pieces can be individually replaced, so I wouldn't worry about the wheel being repaired. It seems like they're doing their best to cover your damage and get you on the road as soon as possible. If I were you, I'd put the car on a jackstand in the garage and have them send the wheel back to the manufacturer for repair.

Where are your stock wheels, can put them back on temporarily?

Is your Z06 your only car?

Those are HREs. That could take a while. Good luck.

This car is my daily driver, and the stock wheels are being sold and picked up this Sunday.

You are correct, they are iForged, but glad someone made the mistake. Actually, I will be posting some detail info on them this weekend once I get everything cleaned up and can get some nice pics. HRE's are awesome, but I tell you, a lot more people may start looking at iForged wheels as an alternative for 1/2 the $$$.

Flintstone, I assume it's you. Nice wheels. Let me know next time you need tires mounted. I have an inside at both NTB and Discount. I doubt I can help with your problem now but in the future, shoot me a PM when you need wheel/tire work done.

btw-which Discount Tire was it?

Corrected you in previous thread, but yes, these as well take 6-8 weeks to build.

No Flintstone here, but the DT was the one located at MacArthur just North of 635 in Valley Ranch (DFW).

I think you are being a little over zealous yes. If you get on a stock Z06 sized wheel (or whatever the matching size is) for a while yes it will look funny but it won't hurt anything. What else would you want them to do? Buy a $1500 wheel when it can be fixed for a fraction of that? Sounds like the wheel will be good as new considering it is a three piece.

Try to understand that they are doing their best to fix their mistake, but put yourself in their shoes and really think about it. We Z06 owners are a very particular bunch I know, but sometimes we have to allow for "good enough" in the time being as long as it turns out best in the end.

I dunno man, I'd say everything seems ok to me.

JW, can you post a plea to someone near you to loan you a set of stock wheels/tires for a few weeks? If you lived closer, I'd loan you mine

If it's your only car, it appears that you have 2 choices... find a set of stockers to borrow or have them get you a single wheel to use until the IF wheel is returned.

I can't imagine that IF would take long if you call and explain the circumstances. Maybe they can turn it around in 1-2 days and get DT to pay overnight shipping both ways?

JW, I'll try to contact Vince to see if he has any polished lips in stock that he can send over or service you with right now. Call me at 808-216-3480 or email me your # again as it is on my home email.

Aloha, Dave

Hey Dave, just got off the phone with Vince, and we have a game plan. Just shot you and him an email as well.

Not sure what problems people had in the past with Vince, but he's a super nice guy, and seems to be willing to do what he can. We need to get his ass out of those German cars and into a real machine, but besides that, heck of a friendly guy. I guess not everything one reads on forums should be construed as facts in stone.

You're right Wayne. I'm trying to get DT to commit to next day delivery both ways, and iForged will get the wheel fixed in a day.

IMHO there is only one DT in DFW to do business with

PM me and I'll give you the info

I've followed the manager of this store from store to store for 12 years and always happy

he's the man as far as the SCCA, PCA and BMW autocrossers are concerned
