Need help with iPod install...
Hey all!
For those times when I actually do listen to tunes, other than the sweet sound of my motor, I've been wanting to hook my iPod up to the stock sound system. I've tried a couple of different FM modulators (Belkin & Siig), but they're both equally bad with the sound quality. True, MP3's aren't the best quality sound, however, I was fairly well satisfied with one of those tape player adapters. Now that I don't have the tape, I was wondering about direct wiring to the back of the stock head unit & using the AUX input. I'm just concerned about signal inputs. Power is not a problem.
SO, couple of questions... ...since I don't have the shop manuals yet, I thought I'd see if anyone could give me some info on removing/getting to the AUX input of the head unit or, if needed, console removal. Not having seen the back of the head unit, is there a simple plug-in/wire-in connection I can make for the AUX connection? I have no problems doing electrical stuff, or most minor mechanical--just that some pointers of where to start or what to look out for can really make it a lot easier than going into the "discovery zone".
TIA!

I know absolutely nothing about your audio question, but can help with how to get the console off. Is that really what you're wondering at this point, how to get to the radio?

Ahroun--The Belkin and Siig converters are plug-in FM transmitters--unfortunately they are very low power and don't seem to be able to deliver much signal beyond the noise threshold. They transmit between 88.1 to 88.9 Mhz--usually a pretty empty spot on the bandwidth, but around the L.A. area there still seems to be a few stations that are able to almost overpower it, as well as bleed over on nearby frequencies. I've taken off my antenna mast to minimize the signal strength of "outside" stations--that seems to have helped some, but I still notice the degraded quality of the transmitted signal. I'd much prefer a hardwired input.
I prefer to keep most of my music at 192 kbps, or higher (usually at 320 kbps), so it usually is quite good quality...
KMeloney--YES!! I'd love to have any info on console/radio removal. I'm sure I can figure it out, but it's a lot easier if pointed in the right direction--'specially if there are any hidden clips or certain directions that a release needs to be pushed in, to remove.
