need help with selecting a new air intake

I am a relatively new '02 Z06 owner. Iam not all that mechanically inclined however, I was told that putting a new air intake system will slightly increase my horsepower and give me a few more miles per gallon. My other concern is if I place the new intake will my warranty be voided?

PLEASE HELP!!!
THANKS!!

Donaldson Blackwing took 15 minutes to install, $200, and because there is no cutting involved can be swithced back to factory if warranty work ever becomes an issue. Most dealers (at least mine...) are cool with bolt-ons not voiding warranty. However there are some - check out the thread floating around about the dealer who wouldn't cover tranny damage due to CAGS defeat being installed - who have a hard line as far as mods of any sort. IMO, get the intake and you'll see how easily they go in. Then just pull it off if you need warranty work.

This will be one of the hardest decisions youÕll have to make. Here there are as many opinions as there are after market intakes. Opinions range from Ònon are any goodÓ to some are the Òbest thing since sliced breadÓ.
After 3 months of trying to decide, IÕm going with the Vararam. Now this is only because IÕve seen good things from members/drivers that I respect.
There have be dozens of threads and polls on this subject, so take your time, search the threads and try to decide whatÕs going to work for you and your pocketbook.
They opened up the box on the 02 Z a lot, so donÕt expect a huge increase, but every little bit helps.

Good Luck

I think the vararam is giving a few more hp- nothing really significant over others, but I think a few hp. The thing is that the cost of install, unless you do it yourself, is not worth it t me.

It seems to me the biggest bang for your buck is Halltech T-1C.

Most dealers will ignore the presence of an air intake mod when doing warranty work on your car.

As to which intake...What you should seek is an intake that breathes cooler outside air NOT underhood air. The benefit really shows on the street and the drag strip, less so on the dyno.

So go for a Vararam, Vortex, or Halltech. Doesn't really matter much. The three quickest Z06 ETs with just an intake and drag radials: one vararam, one Vortex and one Halltech.

Today, in 2150-2300 feet density altitudes (measured by a TAG weather station and not favorable to good performance), my Halltech cold air intake produced trap speeds in the 116-117 mph range. A stock air boxed 02 Z06 running with me was producing 115. The difference is the benefit of cooler outside air.

So buy the intake that you favor. So long as it draws outside air, it doesn't really matter which brand you choose.

There has been vast amounts of forum bandwidth consumed on this subject. Too much really. In retrospect, I think those that do a "cheap and dirty" mod by tie wrapping their stock filter to the lower half of the air box, without the top cover installed, have made a less restrictive intake mod at practically no cost. Some even figured out a way to invert the lower half (with tie wrapped OEM filter) and spaced off the radiator shroud. This arrangement sucks air into the fully exposed filter from behind the front fascia which is generally cooler in that region. The basic idea is to make for a dramatic increase in surface area of the filter media, which is what most aftermarket intake systems for hundreds of dollars try to do but without all the bells and whistles. And some of those don't even come with any emblem or nifty looking logos.

We offer the Blackwing, The Vortex and the Vararam.

Give me a call if you'd like and we can talk performance and pricing.

They range from $205 to $428 with shipping included and offer different perorfmance gains and install scenarios.
