Needing a new clutch need suggestions

Hello to all:

Not sure how all this works with the vendors..... Guess that limits your answer. What are most of yall replacing your clutch with?

What all should be replaced when I do this? I've been looking and 1600 bucks is what I'm finding (includes 300 for installation). Does this sound about right? I won't say the brand but it is a stage 2 and I guess all stage 2's are about the same.

Driving is hard in town and on the interstate.....no racing or such.

Thanks again in advance,

T-man

I paid around 800 for a SpecIII with a Fidanza flywheel from DTE. That was a GP price. Not sure what they charge for installation, I like to bust my own knuckles.

If you are still using the original '01 clutch and not racing, I would consider replacing with a stock clutch. The stock clutch has been significantly upgraded since '02. I would also consider replacing your master and slave cycliners. Check with Forum merchants such as GM Parts Direct.

Spec III or Lux Gold. I have the former with a Flidanza light steel flywheel in a 427 C5R motor and I love it. I also have a McLeod master cylinder since the AP Racing master cylinder is poorly enginnered junk.

I have the exedy twin disk and love it! It might be more than you are looking for. If you plan on doing a lot to the car I highly sugest it. I paid $1700 for it and installed it myself. IMO it was worth every penny.

To avoid vibration problems, whatever brand you decide on have the assembly balanced. This could save you a lot time, money and aggravation.

It will be interesting to see what kind of clutch setup the new 500 HP Z06 has and if it can to retrofitted to our cars.

I too have the Exedy twin plate clutch. It came with a flywheel.
They were both balanced as a unit. VERY IMPORTANT!!
I have gone thru a pile of OEM 02 z06 clutches. Only one was due to slippling the rest were due to balance issues. Even the orginal one shook my car. I never new how smooth it could be until after 4 clutches and 30,000 miles when I put in an Exedy. Some guys say they ripped them out but most of those guys have over 800 plus hp
I am around 479 rwhp.

Ah ha!!! Alright, thanks to everyone. That is what information I was searching/hoping for. I was not aware of the balancing act either, so thanks.

I have a Spec stage III with a Fidanza flywheel (balanced from DTE). I would not recommend the Spec clutch. It chatters a lot, and mine is now making a weird grating noise when the clutch fully engages. I would look into some of the other clutch options before going with a Spec. I know other people here have had problems with Spec clutches.

Spec 2/3 hybrid clutch. Pedal effort is like stock, engagement is not harsh at all, and its holding 606rwhp/584rwtq...but I'm not using slicks.
