In fact they are AGM. The 01-03's are at least. The 04 batteries are different and I'm not sure if they are or not. I believe they are however.

If you want proof the following is according to GM with regards to the 01 Z06:

A new Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) battery, sometimes referred to as a "starve" battery, - which is lighter and more durable than the current Corvette battery - becomes the standard battery on all Corvette models.
In the AGM battery fiberglass mats are impregnated with electrolyte, then compressed along with the lead plates into a sealed and well-reinforced case. The resulting more-compact battery is capable of being run down and recharged more often than a common lead acid battery, has better heat resistance and is 5.7 pounds lighter than the battery it replaces.

The couple of '04s I have seen have the same battery as the regular vettes. I guess GM gave up on these babies....

Is replacing the OEM battery with the Optima Red Top simple or is there something special you have to do?
Thanks,

And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

The OEM battery in my Z16 is a Delco "maintenance free" battery, but it is not AGM. It is not sealed. It has the little stills in the cell caps.
Oh and it is a top-post battery.

According to the service people and parts dept. the AGM battery has been discontinued. Dealer are replacing it with a conventional 75 month battery.

Replace it
I had loads of hassle with my OEM battery. It was forever flat. In the end I just replaced it with a Optima Yellow Top. Haven't had any hassle since.
