oil question (again....)

Sorry I just went through the archives and didn't spot the answer to my question. I just got the Z from a used dealer and stupid me did not ask what they had in the car for oil, all I knew was they just changed it. Anyway it is a 2001 and I have been driving it rather agressivly for a little over a 1,000 miles and have been keeping an eye on the oil level. Well it was time to put a quart in today and when I went to do it I realized I had no idea if what was in there was synthetic or normal. So I bought normal 5W-30 and put a quart in. Should I be rushing to get this changed in case it was synthetic in there? Please let me know, thanks...
Brian

I would say YES. You can ask them what they put in it but it calls for Mobil 1 synthetic 5w30. Depending on application some of these guys run different weights...but definitely synthetic.

Congrats with your new toy.

here's a few sites about oil changes

filter is in the back of the oil pan on the driver's side, same as an older style SBC. You're probably gonna need an endcap wrench, I grabbed a filter at the store and fit it that way. I think the filter is a delco PF-44 if I remember right. Recommended oil (6.5 - 7 quarts depending who you ask) is mobil 1 synthetic, 5W-30. Drain plug is in the front of the pan by the crossmember.

These sites outline it well enough for me to change the oil no problem for the first time last week (at 700 miles now) biggest issue was I had the wrong size endcap wrench and had to get it the next day, otherwise very easy to do.

I would not recommend using ramps - unless homemade. Here's an easy way to lift the car to change the oil.

6.5 with oil filter change (and who doesn't change their oil filter at oil change anyway) is what GM recommends. 7 quarts if you are going to track your Z06, then go back to 6.5 after the track event.

You didn't hurt anything by adding a quart of regular oil. Since you do not know what they put in I would change it & use Mobil 1 to be sure.

Think about it, they planned to never see the car again and they could save $20.00 or more by using regular oil what do you think they used?

As per the sticker on the oil fill cap: Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil.
As per the owner's manual: Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil.
At the Factory Fill: Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil.

Hope this helps....oh, btw suggest you use ONLY Mobil 1 Synthetic Engine Oil.
