Is one brand of gas better than another??

I have never put cheap generic premium gas in either of my vettes and don't intend to start now. I've allways used Amoco premium which is 93 octane. A top notch mechanic friend of mine swears by it. He says you are less likely to get clogged injecters or other fuel system problems if you use it.

My question is this. Of the major brands of 93 octane fuel, is any brand better for fuel injected cars than the other brands? What is your personal preference.

Any info would be helpful.

Thanks

ZO6XR, I use Chevron, almost exclusively..........93 octane.
It has Techroline, and is really good stuff..............
But, it probably is not much better than what you are using......if any difference, except for this.......

You guys are making me sick . . .

All we can get out here on the left coast is 91 octane with MTBE and who knows what else in it. I used Arco for years in all my other cars with no problems, but I've been using Chevron in the Z06.

I was told that all gas out here comes from only three refinerys. At anywhere from $1.659 to $1.859/gal for "premium" we pay a lot more here for self service crap gas than the NJ guys pay for full service and higher octane - and we have oil wells all over the place - go figure.

At the Big Bear Bash last weekend, I saw several Corvettes filling up with Arco. Maybe that with a bottle of octane boost is the way to go??? Or does the octane boost really matter?

Techroline is technically supposed to be WORSE for performance...I read a very nice article about gasolines a while back, and now I can't find it. It's a marginal amount though - so I usually fill up at the nearest "big brand" station near me when I happen to need to fill up. I stay away from Racetrack, Shell, etc...here in the DFW area. Texaco, Exxon, Mobil, and lastly Chevron...

I wish we had someone with a dyno who could perform tests like these.

Manatee - I think the tolerances of the dyno would out perform the gasolines....if that makes sense....I don't think you would be able to tell on a dyno at all....

Don't know the chemistry enough to accurately answer your question, but I stick to Mobil Premium at home, and any of the top name brands when I travel. Sunoco also has 94 Octane, but there aren't many Sunoco stations around here.

Last ( and only time) I used mobil........my car was a pinging fool.......never again.
Texaco, works ok.......but, i seemed to have "Fuel Gage", syndrome using it......so, I went back to Chevron.....

Tamuzi...............
Don't know about that.........the BMW folks think very highly of it....and use a container every time I took mine in for service.....
Also, with the Chevron 93, my '01 pulled 348rwhp, and the '02, 356..........
Good enough for the girls I used to go with on stock cars........

In other words, Dance with the one what brung you...........:D :D

If the dynos couldn't be precise enough to pick up a difference, does that also mean there really isn't that much performance difference between premium fuels? Unless you could find Sunoco 104

I agree - that's why I said "technically"...:P

I still use it - I really don't think the difference between the major manufacturers is enough for me to sweat it...if I'm low on gas and there is a station there - I'll use it.

I really wish I could find a few of those articles I read, one was by an engineer with either Mobil or Exxon if I'm not mistaken...you wouldn't think it would be an interesting read, but it was!

Send a message via AIM to Speedracer
Mobil 93, Conoco 93, or Sunoco 94. I have a Camaro that will make a noticeable ping id you put cheap gas in it. I've never had a problem with Mobil, Conoco, or Sunoco.

Thanks for the info guys.

From what I gather any of the major brands are ok as long as it's 93 octane or better. Sonoco isn't available around here so 93 is the best I can get. The only reason I use Amaco is that it's as clear as water. It just looks cleaner. Probably a mind thing. I suspect they use just as many additives as everyone else but it does not have any color to it.

BTW the station near my house is selling it for
$1.34 a gal self serv
