Do not cut the boot!! If you invert it like I did you can add a round rubber shift boot and attach it with a zip tie to the stock one. I picked one up at Pep Boys for $15, It came with a chrome floor plate. That's why it was $15, But all you have to do is cut the base of the boot off slide it down the handle and attach to the inverted stock boot with a black zip tie. It cuts down on heat 100% and helps alot with noise! I will look for a pic.

Here I found what I used on the Advaced Auto web site

When I put in my BPP shifter I just put the stock rubber boot back on on top of it. I had some Dynamat material left over from quieting down my PC and I cut out a oval piece and laid it on top of the rubber boot. Then I put the plastic panel back on and slid the leather boot back on and I was finished. I put a new MOMO knob on top and I am extremely pleased with the result. Much much better than stock !

I did the same exact thing when I installed mine except I also put a 2 1/2" long piece of heeater hose on the base of the shifter holding the PepBoys ricer boot in place.

No noise at all.
