Are you anal about how your Z looks? Do you worry about every little scratch or do you just wash it and throw on a little wax or Zaino every now and then?
Was just wondering if I am anal about worrying about small scratches or if everyone feels this way. Most of mine cannot be seen in sunlight but are very noticeable under high intensity halogen lights.
Very anal here. Black car. Many coats of Zaino. Sponge bath and close inspection after every drive. Rests on Berber carpet in the garage. Flannel cover for when it sits for more than a few days. GF still on life support for using her wool jacket to remove her handprint from the door last year. It goes on and on... It's a sickness.
My car is black and I realize over time that small scratches will happen and paint chips will occur.I will use touch up on the paint chips and zaino every now and then and don't let the finish details ruin my enjoyment of the car.
Very very anal. I make my wife wipe her shoes off after I open the door for her, don't want hand prints on the door handle. Besides, she (nor anyone else) know how hard to close the door, it takes that special touch.
Very anal, but as Norman said, I try not to let it get in the way of driving her (too much).
Her in Seattle, Rain and mist are almost a constant pain to of all colors a Black car. So she is washed alot, with the average wash and detail afterwards taking 3 hours
Then there is the Zaino ritual that starts when the good weather arrives
I hate it when stuff happens to the car, but nothing really big has happend to it....but I just drive it and am not to anal about it. Stuff happens, they can be cleaned
Yup, Im as guilty as the next guy but not to the extent of enjoying the car. Another thing, I am anal about the word anal! Can't we find a um less homophobic word? Bill
I guess I am fortunate not to ever really have a roblem with scratches because of the color.
! LOL! (I've got MY too, so I can speak from experience...)
If you have no scratches in your MY paint, you're just not looking for them. Now, granted, they don't show up as readily as on some other colors, but the clearcoat's all the same (crappy and soft), and even our MY's scratch.
Luckily, my scratches only really show up under fluorescent lights and/or direct sunlight, and only at an angle that reflects the light directly behid the scratch. When not looking at those specific angles, the scratches just can't be seen. What we MY owners DON'T have to deal with is that swirl-mark look that shows up so readily on black cars.
To answer the poll question, yes, I'm super-persnicketty when it comes to the paint (things I can take care of, that is). After I wash the car, I pull it into the garage and check for scratches as I described above, and then have at 'em with the 3M Scratch and Swirl (followed by Zaino). Now, I have some little paint chips out of the nose, but they're not glaring. Again, I fix what I can, and make a point of it.
Incidentally, if any of you haven't yet discovered 3M S & S Remover, I suggest you rush out and get some. It amazing stuff for getting out those individual (and multiple, sometimes) scratches.
I try to keep it very clean. I usually don't take the car out if it is going to rain. Plenty of Zaino/ZFX on it. I have a few chips and scratches and will probably fix them soon with that ultimate touch-up kit. I don't let the kids walk or play near the car. My three year old is the biggest challenge. My six and eight year olds already help keep their friends away when it is parked in the garage. I had one of their friends drag a tricycle accross the front quarter panel of my 99. Now there are no bikes or scooters in the garage.
Although I like the car to be perfect, if I can't drive it around and enjoy it, what is the use of having it? There are always going to be imperfections in the paint. I just try to keep the overall look of the car good.
