Question about my heads: A&A stage 2 5.3 liter heads

Ive had my car since around july. For some reason looking at the previous owners sig, I just nocied my car has a&a stage 2 5.3 liter heads, the car is an 01 z06, arent these heads off a truck? any idea why the previous owner would go with these, do these flow better then 01 heads?

Its hard to guess why?

Maybe better to contact the previous owner and just ask him?

Stage II AA heads probably flow better then stock LS6 heads but it would be a strange swap...

You'd think he'd have gone with Stage II ls6 heads ...

i talked to him about it before and he said it was due to money, since he did this back in the day i guess it was a lot more money, im just hoping these heads actually flow better then stock ls6 heads

Check out AA Andy's site here or better yet call AA Andy. He's a great guy.

I would imagine and its just an educated guess on my part that STage II 5.3 heads will flow better than stock ls6 heads...(I remember reading the various threads over the years over at www.ls1tech.com and they often said the stage II ls1 and 5.3 heads when done right often and easily outflowed stock ls6 heads..

My suggestion is to enjoy your car and if your interested.... call Andy.

Andy's shop in my opinion is top notch.

Depending on the cam? Your probably putting out? 430rwhp which is more than my "cam only" stock ls6 head throwing down `400rwhp and my cars pretty dam quick! imho..

Best of luck

JB

oh it put down like 407rwhp but i think thats because of the tuning, it was tuned by a predator so i think there is much to be had in that department...so its going to be time for a tune in my near future

I highly doubt that a reputable tuner would have allowed someone to swap out parts for something that would make less power. I know that for a while the 5.3 heads were the hot ticket. Higher compression, tighter quench... don't remember exactly but there were some benefits.

407 rwhp is a good number...(Imho dynos have a 2 to 3% error factor anyway)

I'm not a big fan of the predator tuner so if it were my car? I'd have a reputable local tuner near you ...have at it on the car...

THeres some good potiential left in the car if your car has a predator tune...

The new SD tuning...or the HP tuners or EFI live (I'm far from a tuning expert but the concept of greater visability and tuning capability on the HP tuner and EFI live is widely acknowledged...

That would be my recommendation...when your ready to re tune the car..

I don't know the tuners available in Florida....that are using EFI live or HP tuners but those are the guys I would seek out..

Till then...I'd suggest using the car as is...

407rwhp with a 2 or 3% dyno error factor is a lot of fun...

You've got me beat as I'm at 396rwhp and the car seems fast as hell!

Welcome to the site!

I just got a reply from Andy and he said a good set will outflow z06 heads...so since they are from him i assume they are a good set and it also raises compression, i think my car def has more power in it....ill give that place a call, i also have a friend that tunes a lot of cars for titan and has done vettes
