Re: Redline Water Wetter: Pros/Cons
I recommend Red Line Water Wetter, especially if you track the car. It is a surfactant that lowers the surface tension of H2O and prevents hot spots in the engine and enhances cooling.
Adding Red Line Water Wetter will NOT void the warranty. (You do not have to advertise the fact that you added it either...be smart.)
The Water Wetter does work better with the older style green coolant but will also help the new orange Dex-Cool to a lesser extent.
If you are JUST adding Water Wetter; just add it in the overflow catch can cold and then do the De-Airing Procedure as outlined in the Service Manual.
For tracked cars in hot climates and in the summer in Northern climes I recommend dropping the ratio of Coolant/H2O from 50/50 to 30/70 and adding 2 bottles of the Water Wetter. Do not forget to reconstitute to 50/50 for winter storage and if ambient temps drop below 40*.
Use only distilled water.
Be sure to use the de-airing procedure in the Sevice Manual when changing coolant.
You can also:
- program lower temp fan acctivation
- install a 178* T-Stat
- Operate the A/C in recirc mode while at idle in the pits or on grid. This will lower the H2O temp 20*. in 5 min.
Another option to consider if the car is a National level dual use car or dedicated racer is to upgrade the cooling system (all or in part)
- install a larger core racing radiator}
- install an engine oil cooler}
{ combine both of the above by installing a Ron Davis racing radiator with Integrated engine oil cooler
- Blueprint the Water Pump
- Blueprint the T-Stat or eliminate it
- Install Waterless racing coolant.
