Single or dual disk clutch plate?

I have had an offer to do a McLeod single disk clutch, labor and parts for $1200. Now I'm hearing some views on the dual disk clutch being better. I'm confused. My driving consists of daily, some autox, some FATT events and drag racing. Any opinions?

The dual disc will last longer but it is slower and heavier.
It will cost you a tenth in the 1/4 mile and 2/10 in AutoX. Thats just in shifting speed chalk up more time for acceleration loss and inertia drag.....but it won't wear out as fast.

My recommendation is unless your pushing +600 HP go with the single mass.

My car is in the shop now. I'm having the McLeod Kevlar/Organic single disk clutch being installed. I should be able to post impressions later tonight or tomorrow.

Mike, although there is certainly nothing wrong with McLeod clutches (I've had 2 of them in past cars), you might want to at least check out the StarSpec Stage III clutch. Mine is holding up very nicely and I'm real pleased with the 'feel'

Sorry, Mike. It's been a while so I had to wait until I got home and look at what I paid.
Price was $436 including shipping back in June. Initially purchased without the flywheel thinking I could use my factory one. After seeing it out of the car, I purchased the billet flywheel from StarSpec in July for $235.

Dual vs. Single Disk Clutch

If you can get a McCleod dual disk for $1,200 installed, do it. I have one on my 600+rwhp Cobra and I'm putting one on my Turbo Z06. It takes awhile to get used to, but if you only do occasional strip duty and spirited street driving, it will last forever. I went thru 3 clutches in short order in my Cobra...and that was on street tires. Experience has taught me, do it right, do it once. If you try the other recommended clutches and they don't work out, you'll be out of a hell of a lot more than $1,200.

If you don't want to take my word for it, do a search on clutches in this board and other corvette/ls1 boards before you make your decision. I never came accross anyone who went from a dual disk to a single once installed. They simply hold like hell...and they seem to hold up to tremendous amounts of punishment.

Note: Dual disk clutches aren't without their issues...the engagement does take some getting used to.

I picked up my car today with the new McLeod Kevlar/Carbon single disk clutch, and adjustable master cylinder.

My impressions after driving 50 miles: The McLeod clutch is smoother than the stock Z06 clutch and has absolutely no chatter. The car also goes into gear much easier than before. The pedal pressure is firmer than stock, but I'm already getting used to it.

I can't wait to break this thing in so I can try some 5000 rpm lauches.

I agree 100% with Earl, do it right the first time and never look back

Go with the vendor that you mentioned will do it for $1200 installed. I bought mine from Thunder Racing $890 for clutch/flywheel/master cylinder. 10 hours labor for the install.

Mike ..... give Dave a call @ CARTEK .... they'll put in a clutch for ya. CARTEK has the best clutch right now , and is more affordable then a McLeod ... plus you have a more closer tuner to support it, if you have any problems. You know I launch @ 5500 rpm, right ? No slip Mike !
