As most of you already know I picked up my new Z06 a few weeks ago. Today was the first day I could wash it outside and noticed on the drivers side front quarter panel on the inside wheel well near the bottom it looks as though someone drove it through a stone parking lot. Funny thing is, there are "chips" but they are yellow and not white like you'd expect. It's almost as though there were stone chips and someone just painted over them. I plan to complain to the dealer as this is not evident anywhere else on the car.
My question is do you think I'll have an issue ie. dealer saying I did it. and how diifficult is it to repaint MY? Should I just leave it alone?
Any advice appreciated. I'll try and post pics if I can.
I'm definitely taking it back but am concerned about them being able to match the MY paint. The whole front quarter will need to be repainted I think. I don't know if it's possible to feather it in.
I've seen several members MY Vettes that have had repairs, and you couldn't tell it.
From my experience, I have found that the repainted fenders have a tendency to chip easier in the location you are talking about, than the factory painted fenders.
I am the Bodyshop Manager at Classic Chevrolet. That color is very difficult to match on that particular car. You would not see white underneath unless it made it thru the basecoat. My advice to you would be this. Leave it alone. If this were my car, I would. Although it is an eyesore for a new car, it could get worse. That color, if you will notice has a very "green" cast. Ths paint that we use here (DUPONT), appears to be much darker in appearence. Something you would see on a forklift, not a Z06. Let me know if I can help any further on paint issues.

I think what your seeing is the clearcoat has been chipped. Remember that the clearcooat is tinted yellow on the MY color, so what your seeing is the yellow topcoat which is a different shade of yellow without clearcoat on it. It might be possible to just touchup the chips with the required tinted clearcoat.
Its possible only one side could have gotten rocks chips. Ive got an 2002 EB, and noticed that paint chips really easily on these cars. I'd suggest getting stongard installed once you get the paint fixed to your satisfaction .

The guy that is flaming my car says that all the Vets have a soft clearcoat and that it scratches and pits easily. I think he wetsands them and applies a new coat.

Wow, this is some pretty crappy advice! LOL! Now, it may be your experience, and no one can argue with that -- but some things you've said here just don't make sense.
What does a "particular car" have to do with the color that's painted on it? And if it's an eyesore, than why would you let it stay that way, ESPECIALLY on a brand new car? Also, I don't know that the yellow on this car has a very green cast at all -- in fact, toward dusk, it has a very red cast. Lastly, if you use a paint that resembles a forklift's color more than the color of the car that you're trying to paint, then why not use a DIFFERENT (with a more appropriate mixture) paint?!
Now, the ONLY reason that I've reacted this way to this particular post is 'cause I was equally concerned about having my rock-damaged rocker repaired on my MY Z -- but I DID have it repaired, and no one can tell where a repair was done. My body shop (not a dealer's shop) matched the paint perfectly. It CAN be done. In fact, my body guy said that the match was close enough that he probably could have "panel-painted" the rocker.
I've heard of a few other guys here having their MY repaired with similar excellent results.
Chrisdoug, I sure don't mean to attack you here. Sorry about that. But, I think people need to know that there are perfectly-viable options out there, and your post probably made the initial poster's heart sink (thinking that his brand new car was just going to have to stay damaged). He CAN get his car fixed, and it SHOULD be fixed so that no one can tell that it had ever been touched.
