This is usually caused by the pads becoming glazed. To get rid of this drive normally for a while to warm up the brakes then do a couple moderately hard decellerations from about 70 down to around 10-15 mph, but don't stop or engage the ABS.

It can also be caused by some contamination on the rotors but it's unlikely.

My Z06 did this and I heard it was completely normal due to the Z06's soft brake pad compound.

Some pad compounds tend to glaze more than others, with more aggressive pads being more prone to it, yes. 'Normal' is a relative thing.

That said the only way to really eliminate it for long is to change to a more streetable pad. Many people, myself included, prefer using ceramic compound pads on the street as there is virtually no dust or noise.

You need to rebed the pads as was said above: 2-3 hard stops from 70 to 10 MPH in rapid sequence after warming the pads/system up...... then let it cool over night.

Can a person autocross (competitively) w/ ceramic / more streetable pad? Not highjacking this thread - I am getting the squeaking since last weekend's fun too... thx...

You could but you probably wouldn't want to. Reason being the ceramic pads are more prone to fade under repeated hard braking and you might end up with no brakes at some point.

You're better off using seperate pads and rotors for AutoX or track. You get the best of both worlds that way.

thx No Doubt - I had read that elsewhere here but wonder about the monthly "jack the car up, and .....". I need to consider my potential level of ongoing involvement... thx again.

I talked with a few people about it. They said in 02 they used a harder brake pad for better stopping, but under low speeds it will squeel. My 02 does it and it has 14k miles on it.

I use KFP Gold pads for AutoX, Pro Solo, that have great stopping ability, coefficient of friction, run relatively cool, have a broad heat range are ready immediately and have a great release and modulation plus have ceramic backing plates. They are a carbon/Kevlar composition and are rotor friendly. i iuse them with OEM cryo'd rotors and have moderate dusting and no squeaks.

If I do pick up a squeack I just rebed them immediately.

I received a quick reference "hanger" type pamphlet with my car. It's from GM and it says you should expect higher than normal brake dust and squealing at low speeds due to the front brake pad material. The squeal you hear is normal for our "race cars with license plates".
