Steering Tilt Mechanism Stuck!

Okay, anybody else have this happen to them?
Drove the Z to the store yesterday and when I got out, I put the wheel up as I always do...makes it easier to get in and out of the beast. When I got back in, the wheel would not come back down. The lever moves but the wheel is stuck in the up position. I drove it home feeling like an old Ferrari 308 driver...very annoying. I'm worried about this being related to the steering column lock problem and am not sure if I should drive it the 8 miles to the dealer or have them call a flat bed truck. Anybody else have this problem?

This is about the third post I have seen on this problem. Some have been able to force it back in to position with brute strength. If I recall correctly the problem occurs when a small piece of metal or plastic breaks and gets lodged in the mechanism. I would drive it to the dealer and have them deal with it. If you flatbed it you may incur some damage if the driver doesnt know what he is doing...good luck!

Mine did it about 30 miles from home. I drove it back and to the dealer the next morning, no problems at all.

No relation to the column lock issue. In my case it was merely a screw that had worked loose, very easy fix and i've had no more problems.

I had this happen twice.
Pull the tilt lever and hit the lower part of the steering wheel with your fist real hard and it should come loose.
When this happened to me both times, the wheel slipped out of my hand when tilting it up and when this happens, the wheel goes up pretty fast and hard.
Now I kake sure that I don't let it slip.

Hope this helps.

Don

Had the same thing happen to me in my own garage after a drive, I inadvertently let the wheel slam full up after releasing the tilt lock. Went out about two hours later to go to the local cruise-in and the wheel was stuck in the full up position. After looking intently into the opening in the side with a flashlight and finding nothing broken or obstructing the tilt mechanism, I simply pulled the lever back as usual and gave the wheel a sharp tug downward... problem solved/lesson learned.

Problem Solved. Took it to the dealer and they fixed it in about 5 minutes. I will be careful about letting the wheel slam up...I usually don't but it is possible it may have let it slip at the store.
