I really need to know what style and brand of supercharger is best for MPG on an ZR1. if anyone has some info for me I'd really appreciate it. My dad wants to put either a whipple or a vortech on his 90 ZR1. I look forward to everyones input. Thanks

My dad doesnt have a problem affording gas nor a supercharger. It was a simple ? that he ask me to find out for him. I dont know why everyone has to be a smart ass. if you dont know the answer then please dont come back with the crap ive been getting. He just doesnt want it to get worse and it was a thought. Is there something wrong with the qustion i asked. Is it really a problem to want better gas milage?
Have you also considered the Magnusson from LPE?
The reason I ask is that it appears to be a little more conservative roots type blower (based on the hp numbers I've seen). I also assume that it may not require quite as large an injector. This would make better mpg, I would think, than a more aggresive S/C.
And what is wrong with spending 5-6 grand on a S/C to never see boost, to never experience the performance gain and increase your gas mileage by a couple MPG. Calculate the return on investment (negative) and time value of money (lost).

Thanks mike. I had never heard of a magnussun untill now. I will research that. Does anyone here know about whipple chargers? I'm thinking about getting a whipple for my 87 blazer also.

are you saying a supercharger is a waste of tiem and money. If you have any better ideas then id like to hear them. I'm open to suggestions. ;-)
RedZ06Vette,
Sorry brutha, seems superfluous to me. I just don't understand the thought process. Kind of like a Heavyweight fighter dieting down to lightweight to save energy. I had a ZR-1 great car, if I wanted better gas mileage I turned off the second set of injectors. I think at best you are talking 2-3 miles per gallon, and all that will be nullified with a couple jabs of the vicious whine of the S/C.
Sorry, Red, although I have heard of the Whipple S/C, I'm not familiar enough with it to know any characteristics.
The other thing to consider when measuring S/C's vs MPG would be the level of boost your dad wants to run. The lower the boost (air injection) the lower the work of the fuel injectors, the better the MPG.
I know that's oversimplifying the hell out of it but i think the premise is sound. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here....

Red, is there an hp level your Dad is trying to obtain while keeping MPG levels up?
Knowing this might lead to other more conservative ways to accomplish the goal.
its not that big of a deal. Just a question about the differences. Hes not that worried about MPGs or he wouldnt be looking to put more hps to the engine. He just wondered which one produces better gas milage or which ones made it worse. Either way hes gonna put a S/C on it and probaby take the plenum off the port and polish it. I told him to get a Z06 since thats what i plan on getting in a couple of years but hes loyal to the king of the hill i guess. Thanks for the info guys.
