Superchips or Preditor tunning?

I am considering getting a tunning device and am considering the Superchips and the Preditor. I am also planning on getting an intake, probably the Blackwing or Vortex. I have read some about there on the forums but there still doesnt seem to be good proof of whether a tunning device like these works and how well it works. I am wondering if anyone has recently bought a Preditor or Superchips tunning device and used it with either a stock Z06 or one with just an intake and exhaust since these are the mods I plan to get and what kinds of horsepower and torque increases they have seen. Dyno sheets would be great too. Thanks in advance. Also, will having ANY of these mods throw an error code?

Will C.

I can't speak as to the usefulness of either of the tuner products since I don't have one but I recall at least one thread in which a member documented his results using the Predator. I think it was titled P51's Pedator results.

I can say that after installing the Vortex rammer there was a definite SOTP perforrmance improvement. I also installed headers and cat back at the same time so its difficult for me to tell how much came from which.

How this help a little.

I'm skeptical about these kinds of computer tuning products. I'd advise taking your car to a place like Cartek; they can do a custom re-program on their dyno. This way there is no guessing on air-fuel ratios - you'll know exactly what you have.

Whatever you do, do not use Superchips via MailOrder Chip. They are horrible by my standards. I had one in my 2000 GT when it was Vorteched, it took them about 4-5 tries to get the a/f ratio right. At least it was on the rich side, there was another Mustang at the shop at the time getting similar mods (Vortech, exhaust, etc), that they are truly lucky didn't blow up right there on the dyno it was so lean. I would not recommend them at all. Using them on my Mustang was bad enough, but just thinking about someone using them on a Vette sickens me.

I am not familiar with the Predator.

I had the same question awhile back. Personally i wouldnt use any of the handheld tuners, it seems like no one has had any gains, only detonation with them. The predator would probably work with a custom tune, but whats the point. It would be far better to take it to a tuner and have them do it.

If all you are buying are minor bolt-ons, get LS1 Edit and do it yourself with the basic advice offered on z06vette.com or ls1tech.com. IMHO, all of the gains people are getting with tuning on a basically stock engine are due to leaning out the AFR. It's not a tough thing to do on your own with LS1 Edit. I gained over 10 rwhp just by tuning AFR and I'm still not yet where I need to be.

Superchips supplies the programmer for the Magnacharger but my PCM is headed to LPE as we speak to be programmed by them. I filled out a tech sheet with all of my mods etc. to send with the PCM. My tuner will fine tune once I get it back and in the car if it has any issues at all.

I do not believe in mail order tuning.

IMO you would be better served to consider wideband tuning, on a dyno, with a reputable tuner - using LS1 Edit. Accept no less

As a general rule I don't either...but LPE is doing this at no charge to at least get me started v.s. totally stock tuning.
