Syncro problems?

I never have driven any Z but my '03, so I don't know what is normal. My 2000 was an A4.
My symptom is on every shift, especially in the lower gears, I can "feel" the gears meshing. Not grinding, or anything, just a little notchyness (if that's a word...). Feels like if I would try a really fast shift it might grind, although it doesn't so far. Hard to explain. No trouble getting in any gear though.

Just tell me its normal and I'll go away happy.

Same thing was happening to me. Brand new 03, with about 1200 miles. Just as you described, a bit of meshiness, or what not. No real grinding. Then poof, sitting at a stoplight, and suddenly the tranny wouldn't go into any gear! Now I'm having the whole tranny replaced.

Don't want to scare you, but your symptoms sound a lot like mine. Maybe have it looked at.

Good luck in any case!

I just had my 3rd & 4th gears replaced on my 92 due to broken teeth. I was told this is somewhat common...

All fixed now, feels great...keepin my fingers crossed...

The point has been missed. The synchros didn't cause the problem. The problem started with the clutch or the clutch linkage. The synchros were damaged as a result.

sg, I know that IMHO my syncro problem was directly caused by the clutch not fully disengageing. The clutch fluids propertys should not change as fast as they do, no matter how you use the car. They may not know why your clutch broke but it's almost shure that's what hurt your trans. Ric

This has become the RING issue for the '02's & '03's...........

This has been happening since DAY 1 of '02 changes, '01 synchro's were pressed paper........

'02's & '03's are compressed fiber........supposed to be an upgrade for them over the '01's...........

Clutches for ALL Z's model years are problematic, and have been since day UNO.

The factory KNOWS the problem, and the fix.........they just are not going to en masse do a recall TSB...........too many $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

If there is a silver lining here.....be glad yours went baboom early.......feel for the saps who will undoubtedly PAY big after 36k miles........

It's a shame we have to put up/concern ourselves with these types of issues on brand new 3 year old( production cars)........

Even I could get something right after 3 years...........

And that my story, and I'm stickin' to it..................

2003 with about 2500 miles and no problems so far. Shifts very smoothly and clutch feels MUCH nicer than my '00 Coupe (which has '02 Z06 clutch system).
