T-1 vs Hotchkis sway bars

Does anyone have the diameter specs for the T-1 sway bars? i know the Hotchkis bars are 1.5 front and .75 for the rear... I can't find any information on the T-1's and which ones to go with... any help will be greatly appreciated...

Holy cow, that was fast. Do you search your own name?

Really, that would be good to know. The Andy Pilgrim SE Z06 uses the T-1 bars with an otherwise stock suspension. Would this not unbalance the suspension from the finely tuned package it is now or do the bars not need to be matched to a particular shock and spring?

Thanks,

Chad

i found the specs for the T-1's... 38mm up front and 27mm out back... maybe someone who has worked with these can tell me is the T-1 a solid bar as compared ot the Hotchkis being hollow? if they are both hollow the major difference i see is the rear being over an inch where as the Hotchkis is 3/4 of an inch... and the question of the day is do these give you more stability than the 02 ZO6 bars? i know the endlinks would help but.....

T-1 Bars

Front = 38 mm
Rear = 27 mm

They are hollow...definitely get the adjustable endlinks with the sway bars so the bars can be setup neutral based on the driver's weight.

Swaybar Specs-
Stock: Kinda wimpy
Hotchkis: Pretty beefy
T1: Frickin' HUGE

If you're doing a lot of track events, get the T1s. For an aggressive street set-up, Hotchkis is the way to go.

A lot of people are competing and winning at the national level with the T1 bars and otherwise totally stock suspension.

My source says

Hotchkis:
Front = 1.25" Hollow
Rear = 1.0" Hollow

T1
Front = 38mm Solid = 1.49"
Rear = 27mm Solid = 1.06"

The real spec that we need to look into is the rating in Nwt.m.

The Hotchkis bars are hollow so that would seem to make them lighter per the same rating as a solid bar. The only way you can increase the rating of a solid bar is to increase its diameter. A hollow bar's rating can be increased by increasing the diameter and/or increasing the wall thickness or both. This considering that the arm lenngth and the end link stays the same.

Hollow bars are supposed to be more progressive. Some feel that a hollow bar is better for AutoX where as a Solid is better for Road Racing.

What I am trying to get are specs on the Stock C5, Z-51 Suspension and the Stock Z06 vs. the T1 and Hotchkis.

What I am looking for is Solid vs. Hollow/Weight/Rating/ Diameer.

Is a sway bar part of the unsprung weight?

anything on the car contributes to unsprung weight.. from my understanding.. there is something about wheel and tire weights also changing unsprung weight... i do not know the rule of thumb.. i will call my buddy and ask hime this evening.. he is crew chief for a cratfsman truck.. he will be able to shed some light on this...

I believe unsprung weight is weight which is "not sprung", meaning under the springs: tires, wheels, part of the shock, rotors, caliper, etc.

Everything else is "sprung weight".

The reason to differentiate the two is that add/removing unsprung weight has far more of an impact on handling than does sprung weight... some articles i have read suggest 4-5x, meaning adding 1 lb. to the wheels is like adding 4 lbs. on the body (for handling purposes).

DJWorm...

Who is your source...when I spoke to Doug Rippie Motorsports (I think it was Peter) about the T-1's I was told they are hollow...DRM sells them right off of their website (their "Race" bars are the T-1 bars) which also states the bars are hollow:

http://www.dougrippie.com/drm/suspension_components.htm

Click on 'C5 Corvette Sway Bars' once the page loads.

Check it out and let us know your source...
