Tapping / Rattling noise in Neutral w/ Clutch disengaged

Yesterday when driving I pull up to the light to turn into my subdivision and wait for it to turn green. The car is in neutral with the clutch pedal out. I heard this tapping / rattling noise that sounded like it was coming from under the car near the front. It wasnt the normal marbles in a can sound from the transmission, it was a tapping sound that would occur maybe once every 1 or 2 seconds. My wife in the passenger seat heard it too. I pushed in the clutch and let it back out and it went away.

This was the second time I've heard this, once was a few months ago and pushing in the clutch pedal made it go away then too. I didn't think much of it then since the car was new.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

EB_Z

Clutch Noise..

Hi,

Mine does it to... somedays more than others... I've heard it mentioned here that it is the release bearing... or the clutch plate rattling around... it seems to be normal and ok.

I find the Z is a whole array of odd noises, rattles, sewing machine chatter and marbles in cans... they just seem to be this way... I've even developed a squeak in my suspension when going over some bridge seams or bad frost cracks... hehe.

Yes, its called the transmission dance.
My car does it when I am in neutral. It goes away when I press the clutch. If I depress the clutch, the noise comes back. I've asked my friend who has a '02 Coupe and his car does the same thing.
The Z06 video said the noise from the manual transmission was normal.
Except for the sweet pipe music coming from the exhaust, the car doesn't make any other rattles or noises.
