Is there any ZO6 Owners that Do Not have Noisy Clutch/Tranny

Is there any '03 ZO6 Owners that Do Not have a Noisy Clutch/Tranny. My '03 ZO6 has Noisy Tranny. It sounds like there is extreme wear, it sounds and feels "sloppy" and makes more noise than any other car I've drove (except old worn out cars). Additionally, when I put my car in neutral, like at a stop lite, the car sounds like an old washing machine. The intensity of the noise varies and sounds like a clicking. I've had it in to the Dealer 2X and I am told this normal for the breed. However, before purchasing my current ride I test drove 2 other C5 ZO6 and did not experience the problem. Therefore, if there are other '03 ZO6 Owners that are not experiencing these problems; I need to hear from you! Please take a minute of your time and take this poll. I plan on taking a tough stance and pursue recourse if I do not get satisfaction.

My Z has yet to come in, being born Tuesday, so I can't say there. However when I first got my 00' Camaro SS it made substantial drivetrain noise. I didn't notice this "old washing machine noise" in neutral. Yet when I was going through the gears it was very clanky and sounded like there were little people working on the tranny as i used it. Then again I always hear little people. After few thousand miles the sound started to settle and now at 27k miles I can't recall the last time it didn't sound right. I'm sorry, this was probably of no help to you at all. I'll let you know when my baby ffffiiinnnalllllyy comes in.

Some noise is normal when the clutch is engaged and shifter is in neutral. Even my Trans-Am had some noise. Now alot of noise is BAD and could indicate premature/improper wear and/or an out of balance clutch ass. like mine that vibrated excessively and actually caused rolling resistance, pedal pressure loss, and sounded like squeaky brakes that would rise and fall in pitch based on my speed.
On the 3rd stock clutch now in 3600 miles. 1st original had the problem mentioned above due to some material defect and its eventual uneven wear. 2nd Clutch had to be replace within 5 miles because it was bad out of the box. 3rd one is still not perfect. You drive the car every day and the dealer doesn't, so try and compare to another Z.
Interesting note: GM confiscated all of my clutch parts for analysis like they were carrying some kind of virus.

I have 03 and mine is quite, I know this sounds basic, but did you have the transmission fluid level checked.

Thats a good Idea!

Had da ZO6 in about month ago complaining and the mechanic told me the noise was normal. However, I also complained that the steering did not feel right. Recent had the front end checked, just see if I was right. Low and behold TOE was out 2.8" on drivers side and 2.05 on the passenger's side.. So, with your advise I will have them check the fluid levels.
Thanks,
Ron

Tranny Noise

A lot of vettes with manual transmissions have a very basic mechanical throw out bearing arm that is spring actuated and not hydrolic. Your throw out arm may need to be adjusted so that it fully retracts. This is very common.

I believe they mention this noise in the video. Car in neutral, clutch out, your drive shaft is turning the input shaft to your tranny, which in turn is turning all them gears inside. Since the tranny fluid is ATF and not 90 weight gear oil like was used in the old days, you're going to have some noise. ATF is only about a 10 weight oil. Good for reduced friction but not as quiet as the old gear oil.

Relax and faghedaboudit.

No noise problem with my 03 Z. If I cut the engine off with the clutch out I get a little rattle as it dies. With the clutch in it is completely quiet even then. This is an expected noise.

If the noise goes away when you depress the clutch pedal, it's the throw out bearing...............which is normal in these cars.

A little trans noise or squeak from the breaks is all part of owning a High Performance car. My 2000 Carrera 4 has a tranny whine noises at low speed and noisy brakes.
I crank the Radio, no more noise.

Yeah I know the noise!! I have a 03 and had less then 600 miles when it started making the noise. It’s a loud, in my opinion, rattle sound when the clutch is out and it is not always there. It is rather embarrassing. At first, I wasn’t going to anything about it because it doesn’t affect the drivability, but then I thought about and if I ever try to sell it, who is going to buy it with rattle in the transmission? I took mine to a few dealers asking about the noise. One dealer showed me a service bulletin explaining that noise is supposed to be there (so I asked if the noise is included in the base price or is it an option). They said it is a problem with all 6 speed Corvettes dating back from the mid 1990s. The other dealer I took it to decided to replace the entire clutch assembly, very cool of them. They discovered that the throw-out bearing retainer was cracked and that is why it made the noise. Unfortunately, on the way home from the dealer the noise started again. I was going to back to the dealer but I think I’ll wait until later, just in case I need a new clutch.
