For those about to Rock...02 z06 audio install w pics

I just finished installing a complete new Audio system in my M.Y. 2002 Z06 and of course wished to share the details. I have a battery of Pics to share but no way to put them on this thread. If someone would e-mail me, I will send them and maybe you can put them on. Here is the details:

I removed all the factors Bose stuff first - Head, door speakers and rear speakers. Devised my plan and bought these:

Alpine CDA-7897 Head
Kenwood KFC- 1389IE for the rear ( perfect fit )
Kenwood KFC - P603 Component system for the doors ( perfect fit with MDF adapter )
MTX - 801D Class D 800 watt amp
TWO - 12" MTX thunder 8000a T8124a Subwoofers
4 gauge street wire kit
Audio Online harness adapter and trim plate with cd pocket
Custom made Dual 12" sub box with black carpeting ( made my yours truly with 5/8" MDF)
Antenna adapter cable

Some tips;

The MDF adapter plates for the doors fit exactly right, panels went back on the first time and did not touch them. GM put plenty of room back in there for this upgrade. I have the template for these. I coated these boards with Epoxy clear to resist any moisture. The tweeter is on top, pointing upwards and back.

Speakers in the rear were a drop in. Removed the black cloth inside the grill so you can see them.

I have all the positive and negative stock wiring colors for the 4 Kenwoods, tested with test lite to make sure - all were right.

The stock wiring harness does not have an " Ignition 12 volt signal" - so I ran one to the spare at the fuse box.

The dual sub box sits right behind the seats, on the ledge - is 32" long, 16" high in the back, 14" on the bottom and 10" high in front.

The Amp is in the back next to the dual N20 bottles. The 4 gauge wire was tough to run, but came from battery on up the pass side area. Ground wire was attached below the seat belt upper bolt area on pass. side.

System is roughly 850 watts total, with a lot of flexibility. Maybe a little too much for the Z - but I like too much.

Needless to say - it Pounds.

Looks great! I guess with that much wattage in the rear, you really don't need a bottle heater for the N2O, do you

Looks awesome man. Real clean install. I'd tint that rear window as dark as I could though since those subs are so easy to spot...

Here's mine.
We have similar tastes.

But my sub is situated differently. The amp rack and sub enclosure are all one piece.

and here it is without the cover on the sub

Sharp install! Those subs must really slam right behind your head! Thanks for the pics.

How in the hell do you stand the rattling? Couldn't possibly have enough Dynamat(sound-deadener) in that car to handle two 12's.
Or do you just crank it up louder Doesn't the decklid reverberate? Looks good though!!!! Nice and clean!!

nice setup,
but two 12" subs (in the z06) right behind my head would make my head feel like my ass - no feelings at all LOL
