Throttle Body Bypass: $2.79

I got bored today and decided to go to home depot and see if I could come up with a homemade Throttle body coolant bypass. Amazingly, the parts I needed were only 6 feet from each other and cost a grand total of $2.79. I bought a small brass pipe about 2 inches long, threaded on both sides. I also bought 2 hose clamps. Took about 10 minutes to install. All of the parts are by the sinks and faucets. Saved $17

Kinda like goin' to any hardware store and buying two 1/2"x7" grade 8 bolts for a grand total of $5.00 and saving the $25.00....

I should start a business selling things at half what most Vette vendors do, I'd still triple my money...

Washing machine section at home depot has adaptible fittings and hose if you rather go that way. It's amazing how much good stuff is in that place, if you take the time to look. Ric

No pics unfortunately. I dont have a digital camera. The only thing to beware of is that you have to route the hose under the intake in front of the throttle body. Therefore, you must tie it up(with a twistie tie or whatever) to prevent it from sagging to the water pump pulley. I simply suspended it from the hose clamp on the throttle body with a twistie tie. Iloosened the clamp, put on the tie, and tightened it back up. You cant even see it. Beautiful, cheap, easy.

Anyone know what the risk of this bypass is? Why is it designed and built to have the coolant go through the throttle body? Is this to prevent freezing in cold environments? If so, no problem bypassing this in hot weather areas I assume.

Has anyone ever really measured TB temps? As hot as it gets in Florida I would think that the coolant running throught the TB might actually cool it off in the summer.

Sounds like what I did on my C4. I was browsing the Halltech site and it looks like their Throttle Body Coolant Bypass Hose Kit
bypasses a coolant line and a vacuum line. You can see that here:

and here:

What's up with this? Why are they replacing a vacuum line?
