Throttle body bypass

Question:

Does the throttle body bypass tube actually help out at all? The adds indicate that it is good for 5hp at the rear wheels...seems like an awful lot for 20 bucks. If it works, I will order one today!!!

Question 2: Why would/did GM ever feel it made sense to heat up the throttle body? I can't seem to figure out why this would help anything.....

Thanks for the help! I have learned more about this car from this site than I think I could have driving it for years!!

Under certain atmospheric conditions, the throttle body can and will freeze up even in 100 degree weather. While I can't explain this phenomenon, someone will be able to. NYCHASM has explained this in the past and you might be able to do a search and find out on your own. I wouldn't do it and doubt it's claim of 5 RWHP.

Unlike a carburated engine where you have fuel and air mixing in the venturis there is no fuel present mixing with the intake air charge in the throttle body so "carb icing" is not possible.

However, you can still get moisture from the crankcase backflowing through the intake manifold and this moisture can freeze on the butterfly and throttle body walls possibly causing the butterfly to stick.

As to the performance benefit of the mod it's one of those "it might help...some" but a 5 hp increase is highly dubious, imo. Frankly, I don't think it does a thing.

I am sure it doesn't add anything but it will help you from losing HP....this of course is my humble opinion.

I agree, It will not add any horsepower,
but it will help with heat soak to help prevent power loss once the motor gets hot. I don't recommend this mod if you live north of Orlando. Parts can be bought at Home Depot for less than 5.00
