Thunderhill on May 31...

Anyone going to the Donutz Motorsports event at Thunderhill on May 31st? This will be my first time at a track, so it would be nice to meet some fellow Z06 board participants.

On another note, what should I do to my car to prepare it for my first track experience? I don't plan on any mods to the car until I spend several hours on the track. Even so, I'm wondering if I should put in different brake fluid and change the brake pads?

Also, what air pressure should I run on my stock tires and rims?

thanks

I normally run with fresh oil and chanign the fluid to something like AP600 or Motul will definitely help. Regarding pads, if you change them before the day make sure that you put some miles on them before the event to break them in - you don't want to be running brand new pads on the track right away.

I run 31/32 cold for stock tyres which seems to be a reasonable compromise. Ideally you set the pressures with the car hot, but if this is your first event then I wouldn't get too hung up about pressures different to stock - they'll be plenty of other factors effecting your day!!!

I run my car pretty much stock with the exception of a K&N filter and find that the Goodyears work great and don't go off significantly throughout the day even under hard use. I will be moving to track tryes/wheels soon those for both performance and cost reasons soon).

I Wish I could make it down to Thunderhill ... you should have a blast. Don't be surprised to see a number of other Z06's - up here in the NW we normally get a contingent of four or five Z06's at any DE day. It seems that Z's and WRX's are the track day toys of choice at the moment!

Have fun - it's an addictive drug.

Itry

Don't forget your brain bucket! I'm not positive but at a minimum SNELL 90 with SNELL 2000 preferred.

I would find a good alignment shop that will set the alignment to specs you want. Not plus or minus some number.
I use 1 degree negative camber in front and .50 negative in the rear. Zero toe. And true up the caster. I have lowered the car, using the procedure recomended on the factory tape that came with the car.
I use Roger Kraus in Castro Valley, he is a GoodYear dealer. Also has lot of experience setting up cars.
I would use the stock pads to begin with. I tried the Durastop pads. They generate to much heat. The stock padsseem to work better.
I have some new pads I am trying out, will see how they work.
