Tire pressure for DE

I'm going to Mid-Ohio tmorrow, I have Toyo proxes. Any suggestions on what tire pressure I should use? Does it make a difference if the track is wet or dry?

I'm going to VIR 4/26 and 27 and have the same question and tires.

I plan to start with 35 or 36 front 34 rear. Maybe I'll chalk-mark them as a test.

Someone who knows chime in here............

Rudy,

This is a PM response I got to the same question. What do u think?

What tire pressure would you recommend? I was thinking maybe 36front, 34 rear???????? What do u think?

Larry (ROSSO Z)

I usually go higher in the rain, maybe 36-38psi all around for track and 34-35 for street (cold).

You don't want them going above 42-43 hot but if you are driving in the rain, even fast, they probably won't get that warm.

And make sure you check the pressure between sessions!

Rudy,
That may be a little high, but it depends a lot on how hard you drive, the ambient temp, etc.
I haven't used those tires, but most of the high performance track and street tires I use like 40-44 "hot". It is very hard to tell you what cold to use to get to this hot. Start with something, 36-34 maybe, but check hot and see which way you need to go.
FYI, my cold to hot delta is about 10 psi, but I obviously drive pretty hard. Couple lbs more in the front is a good bias as a starting point as well.
Tirerack has a great section on tire tech with lots of good info on this topic.

I am in the same boat... well maybe not (A little Naval Humor)

Need to watch your tire temps. If you are driving hard, and it is getting hotter, temps could get too high and you spin.

Thanks Subdriver
I saw you on Speed Channel. I don't drive like you do, you would have lapped me. I checked the temps after running and eas at 41f 40r. the day was in the 50's so that probably kept the tire temp down.

Sub- Why the pressure difference front to rear for track days (36-34) when the factory manual states equal pressures (30)? I understand why to increase pressures but not sure why you want more air in the front.

I had a great time at Mid-Ohio. Met Leslie there, nice lady. Is was an S2000 club event but the S2000's were in the minority. There were some nice cars there, a Lotus, Ferrari, 2 Vipers, 2 350Z's, 2 Evo's, a WRX and or course 2 ZO6's. We both had Borla Stingers and were the nicest sounding cars there. The weather cooperated with only a couple of wet spots on the track. Now I need some new tires soon. The Toyos were great. I left the TC on because on the wet spots and it saved me a couple of times. The S2000 group ran a good event with about 10 instructors for the novices.
