Tires and G-force skid pad results

According to Road and Track, the 2001 Z06 was capable of 1.00 g on the skid pad, and I assume later models had the same result. Question is how much improvement would I see by switching to like Nitto RII or some other sticky tire? I also notice this is higher than the C6 numbers posted, although the speed through the slalom is much higher on the C6 which I believe is more important.

If you switch to a HP street tire with a UTOG around 100-120 you will see only a small improvement in handling and response.

However, if you set the car up, for example for Pro Solo or National Tour AutoX you will see a vast improvement. This kind of set up is very "twitchy" on the street and will wear street tires rapidly

This would include lowering and a max. competition alignment with race wheels, Double adjustable shocks, possible T1 or Phadty sway bars and Hoosier A6 tires with a 30-35 rating.

You could easily exceed the 1.0g and get 1.3-1.5 g or better.

Note that the advertised 1.0g rating was accomplished with a tweaked alignment and possibly on race rubber. Heinrecy can attain 1.0g on street tires but he is driving on the very edge.

Thanks DJ. I'm convinced that the best performance improvement for the buck is driver experience. Whether we pull .90 on the skidpad or 1.0, it seems knowing how to drive at the limit (and knowing the limit) puts a skilled driver way ahead of most drivers. Think I'll replace my stock Goodyear F1s with another set or PS2s and enjoy longer tire life and work on my car control. I only do street driving with the occasional g loading on windy roads. Someday when I have the financial reserves to play on the track, I'll sign up for a few HPDEs.
