I have a 2002 Z with about 13,000 miles and almost three (3) years worth of heat cycles (about every weekend) on the original Goodyear F1's, so it's about time for replacement.
My dealer has offered OEM replacements for $1150.00, including alignment which seems all right to me. So I agreed, but it is not yet a "done deal".
My last foray into Tire Rack (some time ago) convinced me that the F1's were the way for me to go. However I checked again tonight (to make sure) and I find that Michelin is now making the Pilot Sport PS2 in sizes that will fit our front OEM rims. The fronts are shown on Tire Rack as being available as of Jan 31, 2005. Both front and rear are "Y" rated.
I think I ought to wait, if necessary. What do you think?
The guys in the Benz forums swear by PS2's. I have read that they are better in the wet than the F1's. Based on my limited experience in the rain with F1's, that isn't really saying much though.
If I were in a position that required me to replace the tires on my E55, based on what I have read, I would go for the PS2's in a second.

F1 Supercars are great on dry pavement, but for combined wet and dry driving, I prefer Michelins. I have Pilot Sports, and while pricey, they suit my needs better.

I can't speak to the PS2s but I do have the Pilot Sports and although I think the F1s have a slight handling edge on dry pavement, the Pilot Sports definitely have the edge in the rain.
I have been on the PS2s (18s all around) and they are quiter, better ride, handle as will as or better then GYSCs, and may even wear better. I'm in the process of selling the Fiske wheel and PS2s I have and will be going to PS2s on my stock wheel. (I have around 4.5k on them and they show around 8/32s rear and 9/32s front at this time.

Hey, Dr. Ron. Car is nice and toasty warm in the garage, where it has been sitting quietly for the last few weeks. I've been doing lots of travelling and using the truck in this crappy weather.
As for mods, none yet. But Kleeman is coming out with a cooling system upgrade that I will look into. These cars suffer from heat soak, and even the guys with pulley and ECU upgrades complain that they aren't getting the most of the mods because of the high temps. I was about to go with a system that shot NOS or CO2 into the intercooler, but will now wait for the Kleeman package.
I hope to see you and the gang at E-town when it opens in the next several weeks. Stay well!
PS2s will be on my car this March. Talked to Conner at Tire Rack and he told me that they are all around superior to the GYs wet and dry - plus they are good for several lbs less of unsprung weight per wheel. Will go great with my new, lighter weight slotted rotors. Sounds like a win-win deal to me.
Winter mods are fun!
