Yes, I use a torque wrench. The engine is aluminum, very easy to strip.
Yeah but...like wantazo6 said... "hand tight" and "snug" work for me too...as long as you remember that there are different values for "hand tight" and "snug" depending on whether the block is cast iron or aluminum.
BTW...the oil filter nipple in the block isn't aluminum so "extra hand tight" would work just fine here.
Been going "by feel" since I was 12. Filters - oil the seal, hand tight, then, depending on how good a grip one can get by hand, 1/4 to 3/4 turn past that.
Plugs ... depends on the type ... one-use crush washer types are best, but for the Z, with its hard rubber seat, it's to point of resistance, then seat firmly with about 8" of wrench leverage ... just so's it doesn't back out.

Charles, I can't speak for the other fellas, but I can't add with or without a calculator. So I just follow along dragging my knuckles on the ground. It helps me keep track of stuff.
