As some are aware, I'm moving to NJ and expecting to be caught in the rain once in a while. I've heard many good things about some forum member's beloved Toyo's. But which ones? I assumed most were talking about their RA1's but those are R rated 100 tw tires, and others claim excellent tread life....?
I guess what I'm asking is, how do the RA1's and T1R's compare. I'm also curious as to how the T1R's compare to our stock F1's. I know this has been beat to death and I have already searched the site, but I'm not sure which toyo's many are refering to. Thanks.
I have T-1S's on the front and they are fantastic. Will replace rears shortly--but may have to use T-1R's since they may have replaced the "S". Go for it.
The RA1's are race tires and therefore wont be as comfortable a ride as the T1r's. I've heard nothing but good things about the proxes T1r's and therefore I've just ordered a set for my vette. They should be coming soon.
You don't want to run the RA1s on the street in the rain unless you are in to hydroplaning!! I run them on my autocross car and they don't have enough tread to pump away standing water.
The Toyo RA1 will not work for rain. The tread is only about half the thickness of the rubber on the tire. So after you wear out 50% of the tire the tread disappears and your left with 4 grooves for the remainder of the tire.

So what I'm hearing is that the proxy t1R's are more equivalent to the F1's but better wet weather. And the RA1's a more aggressive race type tire more like the nittos. I'm interested in replacing my F1's with something similar but better in the puddles, so the T1Rs' sound good.
Where's the best place to buy? Also, I've seen stock Z06 sizes on various vendor's sites for T1rs' but the Toyo website does not list a 295/18.
Thanks for the replies, I'm pretty sure a new set of Toyo T1R will be mine soon.
The RA1 and the Nitto 555RII are basically the same tire. The toyo has a different tread pattern (but the same carcass), and an additional 1/8" of tread. The additional tread depth is why I went with the Toyo vs the Nitto.
Check frisby race tire (google for it) for a source.
Thanks, I'll check it out. Those T1R's look pretty good with the new shoulders vs the T1S's. I can't wait. Now how should I finish off the F1's?........
Proxes are the ones that just rule in the rain. They are unbelievable.
As far as getting confused by others' posts, that's exactly what i'm talking about... Proxes? I'm not sure but I believe there are many different types of proxes. Proxes 4, Proxes T1s, Proxes T1R..... I was always curious as to which ones. I now understand the difference between the The T1R's and the RA's thanks to the helpful replies, but which Proxes are best? I assume the T1R's based on what little I can find.
That being said I do appreciate all the replies, and I will be purchasing some "Proxes" T1R's soon.
The T-1R came out just after I purchased T-1S for the front. The writeups, treadwear, temp and traction ratings, and depth 10/32" are the same. It will be interesting to see if I can still get T-1S next month when I need the rear tires. All I can say about the T-1S is that they are awesome in the rain and create a waterfall out the side of the car-amazing. Also very quiet and comfortable.

Same here...I've been nothing but happy with my T1-S's.
