Trailer Hitch problems

2003 Z06:

So I searched the forums, made an appointment with two different installers... same result: will not install a Draw Tite hitch on a Z06. Other models are OK, but not a Z06.

What's up with that? Any recommendations? Model numbers. I noticed Curt has a model specified for the Z06; however, it is much more expensive... which I'll do if I have to.

Thanks for any input.

I install a DA'LAN, model #257239 on my 01 Z06. The Instructions said the application was Corvette, Coupe & Convertible, 1997 - 02. No mention of the Z06. I purchased it 2 years ago, so it might be that the instructions hadn't been updated for 03. It fit fine. The only issue was that the mufflers had to be dropped because the pipes blocked access for drilling two of the requred mounting holes. I did the wiring hookup through the holes for the tail lights.

I have a vague recollection the Draw-Tite and DA'LAN are now the same company.

I went with the DaLan because a vendor said it had 250 lbs tongue weight while the DrawTite had 200 lbs. These specs were from a trailer products website.

There is no difference in the Z06, Coupe or Vert for the area affected by the hitch.

It's not that hard to do yourself. move the exhaust out of the way, drill 4 holes and bolt it up.

Easy to install, just installed mine about a month ago. Took me right at an hour to install it (not including the wiring).

Thanks for the info. Do you just remove the muffler retaining brackets and let them hang to install the hitch. Man, it looks tight under there. The hitch is due on-dock tomorrow in support on NWR SCCA Solo II #1 on Sunday. Crossed fingers.

Thanks again.

I had to split the exhaust system ahead of the rear axles to get enough clearance to drill the holes. The service manual says the gaskets are not reuseable - about $10 (converts to $8.50 US) each at the local dealer.

The installers are wrong... the frame etc is all the same, a Z06 is not a different car.

Having 2-tip stingers I didn't have to move the exhaust at all. It's easy.

I love mine... people can't even see it until I point it out. I have the draw-tite. I've pulled my jetski around with it too.

I got it to pull my track trailer w/ my tires and tools.

Yep, extremely easy. And while I do not have pictures either it looks exactly like the little drawing on the install sheet. There is really nothing to it!

The installation of the hitch went smoothly, thanks to the input from you all.

I'm having problems with the wiring though. I can get the signals, parking... but the brake lights aren't working. I even tried to tap into the third brake light thinking I could isolate the turn signals, but still no go. Any ideas?

Thanks,
BC
