Tranny Neutral Noise

Any of you out there experiencing a bit of noise in your tranny when in neutral? Mine tends to sound like a "box of rocks" when in warmed up and in neutral. This noise dissapears when I apply the clutch and put into gear, but comes back if I shift back into neutral and release clutch. Is this normal or do I need to go see the DEALER!!

My noise was hardly noticable, until I replaced the clutch. With my 231/237 112 cam and jingling sound, people ask if I need a tune up and a muffler.

I then tell them I spent money to make it sound that way.

In the tape supplied with the car, doesn't Dave refer to that noise as "marbles in a can"? Or is that when you shut the car off with the tranny in neutral and the clutch out? I forget.

If it annoys you too much, press in the clutch and let it out very slowly so that you don't shock the running gears. On mine, 9 times out of 10 it then goes quiet.

It's one of the Z06's race car sounds! One of the threads last year had a member named US Marine who could not stand the box of rocks, ticking valves, and the tinkling exhaust. After much trolling here -US Marine sold his Z06. I like the little nuances that make the Z06 rough around the edges. This is Chevys way of reminding you that the Z06 is a thinly disguised race car.
