I wouldn't think too much of it. It is a typical T56 transmission setup. My 95 Trans am did that, my 98 camaro did that, my friend's '03 cobra does it. The T56 is a good trans, but it seems all of the Manufacturers that use it put a cable operated clutch in the car with a CRAPPY plastic clutch quadrant. That is the main cause of the hard shifting. I was just at the strip with my friend and his '03 cobra, and at high rpm it wouldn't go into 2nd or 3rd. No matter what car you get, if it has a T56 in it, sooner or later you WILL miss shifts because of the the crap supporting equipment. If you like the car, get it - then spend 150 bucks on a steel quadrant and clutch adjuster and the problem shouldn't show itself again.

I'm not sure if they make it for the C5, but I'm sure somebody does. The clutch also might just need to be adjusted, and is not fully disengaging.
****sorry ..no links to commercial sites that are non vendors.. *******you can email or pm info.. please see the forum section "rules of the road" and welcome to the site *******
this is exactly what's been happening to me and i dont know how to solve this problem! it happens to me while racing and all i wanna do is beat the out of the gear! i cant shift 2nd to 3rd at high rpm..its almost impossible to do that..and forget about 4th..u'll be lucky if it shifts to 4th.
i thought my hurst shifter could be one reason, another reason might be something with the tranny or maybe its the clutch
any info about this would be appreciated.

I disagree, this is not common or normal. Balky shifts are a sign of a problem. The characteristic of this problem is that shifts are balky at high engine RPM. If it's just one or two particular gears, the gearbox needs a rebuild (mine did. It would hang on the Blocker going in to 2nd but only at high RPM. The fluid looked awful when we drained the G'Box). If it's every gear, have the owner pay for a Tranny fluid change and see if that helps. If that doesn't work it needs a rebuild (and if it does, it's still probably going to need a rebuild eventually).

Definitely not normal. Mine started being hard to shift on the 1-2, and eventually started grinding on that shift. Got a rebuilt tranny insatalled, and have had no other problems. I can shift as fast as I can get the clutch pedal down and back up (without sliding my foot off the side), without problems. It will probably need a tranny.
I tend to agree... a car that has issues going into more than one gear has probably got a clutch issue.
C5/F-Body clutch problems are common, and alot of them seem to stem from the hydraulics that actuate the clutch instead of the clutch itself.
My '02 has worked flawlessly for the first 55k miles, now at 60k miles it's beginning to act up. Nothing's changed, I have a feeling that it's related to the fluid in the slave cylinder getting old/airated/broken down? but this is just my opinion and I have not attempted to fix it yet.
Search around here, there are lots of relevant threads, even more opinions, unfortunately not many solutions that have been proven to work.
