Using CAGS for 3-2 lockout

We all know about using a CAGS disable so you can shift from 1-2 whenever you feel like it. This might be old news, but it's the first time I've heard about it. Someone used LS1 Edit to change the CAGS settings so that it will lock out 2nd when ABOVE a certain speed.

Stock, CAGS kicks at something like 20mph-40mph, with additional stuff needed like engine load, oil temperature. Maybe some other stuff that I don't remember and don't want to look up Anyway, the idea is that you set CAGS (using LS1 Edit or other programmer) so that it still works, but only kicks in when >85Mph, or whatever suits you, so that when you're at the strip and you're in 3rd gear, you CANNOT shift back into 2nd gear.

Apparently (Mike?) Harlan of Harlan Shift Lights is working on a unit to do this, but still in the development phase.

Ooops, I meant to post this in Pit Road. If a Mod sees this, please move it.

Cags has been used in Corvettes since 1989. Interesting use of CAGS for racing, it makes me think.

If anyone out there has LS1 Edit, maybe you can look at the CAGS parameters and figure out how to do this. Something along the lines of:

Set speed to *enable* CAGS at around 70 mph, or speed where you would not want to shift back to 2nd.

Set engine load to 0% so it would still lock out 2nd gear when you lift (if you lift ) to shift from 3rd to 4th.

Leave oil temperature alone

Another alternative is to simply hardwire the solenoid and manually lock out 2nd after shifting to 3rd.

I wish I had read about this idea prior to today because I was just under the car installing the !CAGS resistor.

i think the better activation is to have it look out 1st gear when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. as that it the most common mis-shift.

I think it's fine the way it is once you defeat the CAGS.

I agree... Besides... It can't selectively lock out gears. It is a soleinoid driven bar that has a fixed pattern. It either is on or off...
