Hi guys! I'm back again asking for your advice....
Anyone have any good suggestions for aftermarket brake systems? I'm looking at Brembo's Grantourismo brake kit, or stoptech, wilwood's, etc.. I read on here that you can upgrade to the C6z brakes but doesn't seem like it was worth it to them.
Anyone change up to any of those? I have the Goodrich lines and I do 2 HPD's a year and about 3 autox's, so it's not just for looks-I need them to perform too.
Also: 4piston or 6? Keep the stock rears or upgrade too? Any systems work with 17" wheels, or am I on the hook for two more 18" + tires? For those who have switched over: was it worth the $$?
I'm back in a c5Z after 14mnths in a c6z. Don't waste your money on C6Z brakes, they look better than they perform. When I was ready to upgrade after reading alot everywhere I decided on Stoptech. For your purpose, which is the same as mine, I would do the front 4 piston front setup which works with your rear brakes. Good luck, lots of info here and opinions. Jim
I'm just about to install a set of Stoptech ST60 front/ST40 rear brakes on my C5Z in the next couple of weeks. I have the brake kit already, and I'm finally getting round to having it installed. I'll let you know how it works out. I also have the ECS front brake duct kit on my car.
What were the issues with the c6z brakes? Also, you're talking about sticking with the OEM rear sliders and the stoptech 4piston for the fronts?..Are you running 17 or 18's in the front?
People might hate me for saying this but if it's gonna cost too much I might sell it and buy a 2006 cayman S. It would be hard to do though, considering I've had her for 8 years and 16K miles. Am I crazy?

My brake kit came to round about $6k + fitting.
I'm sure the Cayman S is a nice car, but it's not really my cup of tea to be honest. Always seemed like a Boxster with a roof to me. Would rather have a Nissan GTR, a new Z06, or a Viper.

The C6Z brakes 'look' good, and a more than adequate for a street car, but they're not in the same league as a real BBK. However, they're a third the price of the Stoptech or Brembos or whatever. Depends what you want.
For your planned use - spend the money on a BBK if you want the looks ... but it's not needed for the track/autox level of running you stated.
I run stock calipers (just put on new ones with SS pistons - after 5 years and 30 track days and about 50 autox days, including 10 days of High Speed "time trials" type of running), ss brake lines, DOT4 fluid, titanium backing plates for fronts, Carbotech XP 10/8 pads, DRM ducts with hose and spindle mounts.
Next go-round I'll get a set of C6 base calipers (slightly stronger across the bridge) with SS pistons.
Running solid rotors ...
Running Nitto 555RII tires and have an old set of Kumho 710's to burn off.
If you must ... Wilwood makes a kit that fits in the 17" front; all the others require 18's and the offset requirements may vary.
Thanks guys! To clarify a bit, I want a more solid bite from the system and the pedal to stay high even after the pads are worn down. As it stands I can get a really good stop on the stockers (tried HP+ and Ebc yellow pads) but I've really gotta jam on the pedal and my leg gets tired after a few laps. Would an aftermarket set even cure that?
Are the wilwoods good or just for "show"? If I can keep the 17's I'll save money and the hassle of selling my two sets of rims/tires (yes I do feel like a bonehead for not going to 18's when I bought my second set of wheels/tires).

The c6z brakes are just average and unimpressive. I just bought a 750BMW sport and the brakes are inspiring in comparison to the c6z. They stop great at any speed. They don't track well and then there is the padlets! It's been a while but I was at a Lou Gigliotti driving clinic, when Lou explained about the Stoptechs w/ using your stock rears. It is designed that way.He highly recommended them for the c5z and sells them at LG motorsports. Give a look but there were alot of guys running the Stoptechs w/ not one issue or complaint. Pads are no problem either. Good luck there are plenty of choices, but C6Z brakes are just lookers.
I know what you mean. I just sold my Audi RS6 and the brakes on that thing were awesome (except when I had to pay for new pads and rotors-$1,300). It had 8 piston calipers and could outbrake the Z any day, even with the extra thousand pounds. I never did track that car though so I don't know how the brakes would be at 8-9 tenths. Besides, I lost more in resale on that car than I paid for my C5Z!
Sounds like you're saying to keep the stock rear one piston sliders and just change out the fronts? If I can get away with that I could save a few bucks. I'm waiting to hear from somebody who's tried the Wilwoods because I'd like to avoid buying the larger wheels and tires too.
