Cartek 2x cam, kooks long tubes, halltec trap and a tune. What other small mods could or should I do at this time? What benifits would I see if I did a theemostat and u/d pully?
Yes heads maybe next. Just trying to get my feet wet first with the cam and headers. Do you guys think $3600 for parts and labor is a fair price for all listed above? Minus the trap.
Just did LG X3 Cam, LG Longtubes, u/d pulley, vararam. I'm at 410hp with only a base tune (need to do final). I do expect to be 420-425, not sure how big your cam is, and if you don't have u/d pulley and intake, you may get a little less....
They are just trying to sell extra 4.10 gears which you don't need unless you are making a 1/4 mile car. Then you need to spend money on the hardened shafts, etc. to keep it together. Next: traction problems. It doesn't seem to end.
I would go the Cartek 3x. PROVEN to go mid tens.
In fact there are new 3x heads/cam for sale, right now, as of last night. I would jump on them.

I was told by Dave of Cartek this package (stage 3x) was ment for 4:10 rear gears...
I personally have never been found of taller rear gear ratios on a car with already enough torque to spinning its rears in 1st and 2nd (stock). However will low end by weaker or something...i mean, will it impead the stage three's performance THAT much if I got that package on the stock rear gear ratio?? I have been grabbling with this desicion for days..."get a stage 2x and keep my stock gears or stage 3 and do 4:10's which i don't at all want." Will low end performance on a stage 3x on 3:42's be lower than a stage 2x's on 3:42? Or will it honestly be the same, just with the top end being much stronger on the 3x....?? Thanks

I'm making an educated guess based on my experience with various engine combos that I've installed and run. I have no first-hand experience with the Cartek 2x or 3x setup.
However, based on the fact that they recommend 4.10 gears and that I assume the 3x cam larger (lift, duration, and a narrower LSA), I will guess that at lower rpms 1500-2500rpm, the 2x cam slightly outperforms the 3x. Beyond that, the 3x will be the clear winner, and it will allow the motor to be spun to a higher rpm.
So for a more drag-oriented car, you'd definitely want the lower 4.10 gears. On the street, they would help too...getting the engine into its sweet spot quicker from a standstill. I'd imagine with the 3.42s you might just want to hold each gear a little longer to keep the revs up than you might normally when you're street driving.
Bottom line... just make sure you're in the right gear, and I'm willing to bet the 3x is the better performer, even with 3.42s.
